Take the front grill out and leave the transmission in.

why take grill out?.. on my 1990 yj we just took ht efan shroud off didconected wires ect and unbolted engin and lifter it out... i dont see why you would need to take the grill off.
1990 YJ 4cly, ax5, 2.5 inch BDS lift, 31 MTr\'s,  Powertrax-lockers all around, track-bars removed, boomerang shackles, warn m8000 winch, electric fan. [sold but not forgotten]

Makes it easier to slip the engine in and out without having to lift it over the grill.  (might be working in a garage.) Although if he's taking the whole driveline out in one piece he'd need to.  It'll also gives you a bit more room to work with.  It doesn't take more then 5 minutes to remove once the radiator is drained.  Just a suggestion in any case.

^ yea, lifting a motor out over the grill inside a garage i think would be impossible (i'm talking your typically 8-9ft ceiling or whatever it is) I know at my parents house I was inches away from the roof pulling the motors out of accords/civics/integras that were only inces off the ground.

To the maker of this thread... what is the damage report on the motor? is the head in good shape? I may buy it from you
