While they they all 'work' the diesel has a distinct advantage.  They idled up stuff, the others had to rev up to get over.  Also mileage was a pretty big difference.  OOn the while you're probably looking at an inscrease of 100-150 miles.

I think if they can make it cost as much as a 5.3 swap, a lot of people will consider it.  A 5.3L swap is around $18K out the door.  For those who are only 49-State Legal, it might not mean much but for those of us in California, it means a lot.

It's an interesting option. Wonder how they get away with not having a dpf or SCR. Wonder if there is a year limit for what they can legally be swapped into...

They mention the engine is a pre-production while the original was a prototype.  Neither are production/50-State.

With DieselGate, I wonder if that put a hole in the VW swap market.

Prob not, the market is pretty small and most of the folks likely are from non emissions states. I didn't follow the issue closely, but I think the VW engines are still 50 state legal.

You have two choices as an owner of a VW diesel and some Audi's I think too.  Let VW buy the car back or have it modified which means reduced mileage/performance.  This is on a Federal level.  VW is then supposed to have these cars crushed which means no salvage.

Once Cummins gets into the crate engine market, I don't think anyone's going to look at the VW unless it's a Suzuki or Toyota swap with a 1.6 or earlier gen 1.9L.  I htink for the Jeep market, it's dead though.
