The shocks are Rancho, the markings are still on them. Spring count is 4 in the front and 5 in the rear, doesn't look like AAL. Are Rancho springs junk?

Well, Rancho hasn't updated their leafs since the early 80's, to give you an idea.  Although I wonder about that front end.  Usually you'll get a track bar extension for anything over 2".  I'd go ahead and remove the track bars.  The leafs are probably stiff enough that you won't have any funky handling problems.  It will be a start.  The other thing would be to replace the shackle nuts with nylock nuts so you can loosen them.  FSM wants them to be 75-90ft-lbs which makes them very tight.  Most people run them in the 40's with the locking nuts.

If you're happy with the amount of list them you migth as well keep them and see if you can tweak them to your liking.

I've been busy with other crap, but I finally took the rear track bar off. WOW what a difference. Rides alot softer in the back. When I was under there I found that the rear shocks have about 1/2" of play in the lower bushings. Time to move them up the priority list.

i have 4.5"RE extreme duty lift and no track bars on the axles and its ride is better than the stock springs that were on it before...do the track bar removal...its worth the ride (and your kidneys will love you for it!!)

How is the stability at freeway speeds?  What about abrupt stops?  I am in the same boat that Jesse-James was in when he started this thread, I just bought a jeep and even driving over a penny brings a huge bounce.....
