Tires!?
« on: July 14, 2006, 06:33:15 PM »
I am a new member to this site and I have to say that it is just what I have been looking for!  I am about to by new tires and I would like some feedback.  Is any one running LTB's?  I currently run 33x10.5's BFG AT's but would like to run SS LTB 34x10.5's.  I have plenty of room with the 4" suspension and 1" body lifts.  Will be installing 4.88 gears at the same time.  Any one have any feedback on the SS LTB's.

Exactly what I'm running with tires, body lift, gears and I'm running a combo of parts for suspension. LTBs are not really designed for steady road trips. They are a rough tire for the street. Bias ply is strong as well as the thick sidewalls. I'm running the 34's on 15x7 rims, locked front and rear. My rear tires surely show the locked rear axle, so keep them rotated. Air pressure plays quite a bit in the ride also. I'm running 23 on the street. On the trails, depending on how hard the trail surface is, I've been down to 11 or so. I want to go lower in air pressure, but I'm still in the testing mode. If I was to do it again, I'd look at some 16" rim and get some tall/skinny metric muds. I drive my TJ to/from the trails and use it around town here/there. It's not a DD.

Only thing about Interco's is that all the skinny tires are bias ply so if it's a daily driver you might want to rethink it.

LTB's I believe are made in Mexico.  I forget what sets them apart from the TSL's other then the weird sizes.

The other thing is no one else really makes skinny tires in large sizes in the US.

they are more agressive...the big lug is a little bigger...

i think that bias ply tires are the way to go whether your jp is a daily driver or not because they will outlast at least 2 sets of tires if not more....i have a friend that had his 38"TSL's on his 79 f150 for 3 years and when he got bigger ones, they still had over 40%tread left and it was a daily driver as well....

Thaks for the info.  I think I will go with the LTB's because it is not an everyday driver and the tread looks to be what I need.

A lot of swampers come in out of balance and out-of-round conditions. I had 2 that they wouldn't mount becuase they wouldn't balance out. So they labeled them out-of-round. Once I started to rotate my tires, I found another. I had them balanced with the lip weights. I later added lead shot to the tires in hoping to balance them out more.
When running these types of tires with the large lugs, due to the chipping on the lugs, it will be hard to keep balanced.
You may want to invest in the dynamic balancer that bolt onto the axle also. (http://centramatic.com/New_Catalog/300series.php)
