Ok, so I left my lights on yesterday morning when I arrived at work, and came out to a very dead battery. I have a 2002 2.5L Wrangler. I jumped it off with the emergency battery pack I carry. It cranked right up after a quick charge, but it would not stay running without me staying on the gas and keeping the RPM's up...basically if I let off the gas and tried to let it idle on its own, it would immediately die. SO.....I had to rig up some weight on the gas pedal to keep it running so I could unhook the cables and put the hood down. I drove it to a local auto parts store thinking the battery was bad ( and boy it was an interesting trip trying to work 3 pedals constantly with 2 feet.) They tested the battery and the altenator and both checked out fine. The guy then told me that on newer cars that if the battery dies the computer can sometimes lose some of its "Driveability Memory" and it won't idle right, drives horribly, and the shift change light will be off...he said that it usually takes 30 to 40 miles of driving for it to "re-learn" this driveability. He even said some of the higher end cars had to be taken to the dealership if their battery dies. I thought he was full of Sh*t. But on a leap of faith, I took off on a 40 mile ride on the freeway, going fast, going slow, high RPM's, low RPM's, just everything I could think of. And low and behold, the darn thing started running normal again. I have driven it all day today, with no ill effects at all. Has anyone ever heard of this? It was definitely a first for me, and I am still not sure what exactly happened.....
