Topic: What would you recommend for Jacks and jack stands?

I'm in the market for a set of 4 jack stands and a good jack.  Of course, I want the most bang for my buck.

What kind of jacks and jack stands is everyone using?  What about weight capacity?

I'd get a decent 2.5-3T floor jack.  You could get buy with a cheaper $19 2T but it's best to get a decent large jack.  Optimally, you'll want a smaller 3T stands and a pair of 24" 6T stands.  You can usually buy these for $25 a pair.  I bought my old pair at KMart for $20.  I don't really see a need to buy $100 stands.  I do like the non-ratcheting stands that use tubing though.

For the jack stands try a tractor supply co. or a northern tools if you have one around.  They are real reasonable and have a large variety.

Do you have a Harbor Frieght in Va? Thier Jack Stands are great and the price is right too!

No worries about the Chinnese made stuff?  I'm a little hesitant to buy cheap jack stands only to have the Jeep fall on me.

I've never had any problems with the cheaper jack stands.  If there was you probably wouldn't see them selling anywhere because of liability.  I prefer to buy my Chinese stands at places other then HF though. They don't have nice colors.

I hve 8 sets of the HF tall jack stands. 1 bent, but not how you're thinking. I parted out a 78 F250 (kept the axles) and I had to turn one side ways on the frame. When the flat bed started to pull on the frame to load, the truck fell on it. The truck also fell on the other and since it was correctly placed, it stood up to the load drop.
The 2 pairs are still holding my Bronco project up in the garage. It's been 4 yrs.. (yah I know, get it done already).

When I was a mechanic for the USAF we had Snap-on jack stands which are $$$ and the stands at HF are built identical but without the Snap-on price and come in a variety of weight ratings. Before you decide there cheap inspect the design and engineering, if Harbor Freight sold Warn Winch's under another name you might miss out on a good deal and I agree some of their stuff is cheap and caution is merited.
