Ignition set question
« on: October 11, 2006, 07:38:09 AM »
Ok, my 02 has a 2.5 in it. According to 4wd.com I should have the 2.4. The ignition set I'm looking at says it for 1991-99, 2.5L, 4 cylinders. Will this set work on my 02? I'm ordering as soon as I get home and out of the crappy hotel.

Here's the set in question:

Well, if you do have a 2.5L then it should work.

Maybe not.  I believe the 4.0L went coil-on-plug in '00, did they do the same on the 2.5L?  This may explain the '99 cutoff.

I think the 2.4L was after '02.  Best way to check, 2.5L had mechanical fan and 2.4L is electric.

Ok, I have the 2.5 then because it has the mechanical fan. My build sheet says 2.5. also. So I guess the 99 will work then. I checked all over 4wd.com but didn't see a system available for the 02. It ends at 99 for some reason. I know I shouldn't have second guessed what I already knew to be true but the 4wd site confused me a bit.

Well, you know what you've got.  Most catalogs like to be on the safe side and are a bit skimpy on years.  Especially when it's a transitional year.

Contact www.performancedistributors.com direct, I'm sure there is a reason it won't fit on '02.

Well, as long as it's not a 2.4L, I'd say it should work.  The only differences that I've encountered was with the rotor they send you.  (YJ and TJ are different) The wire routes should all be the same lengths.  Coil plug should be the same too.

Looking at their listing in 4WD, I see they've got the 4.0L's years a bit screwy too.  It reads '93-99.  It should read '91-99.  The 2.5L reads '91-99 though.  I bet they screwed up and someone thought they put the Multi-Pak on the 2.5L in '00 like they did on the 4.0L.

They did that with their headers too Jeffy. Unless there is a difference between the 99 to the 02 in header design.
