Well, I think the new Jeep looks pretty cool BUT, in my opinion, it's not really a Jeep in the traditional sense. I understand that with the new Hummer H3, and the Toyota FJ Cruiser, Jeep has to compete in a growing marketplace and appeal to customers that want the look of a Jeep, but also want a quiet, comfortable ride, with all the little creature comforts. To me, that's not what owning a Jeep is all about. Sure, it's loud with the soft top, and the zipper windows are inconvenient, but the Jeep is supposed to be a utilitarian vehicle. It's not supposed to have molded plastic bumpers and power windows. Maybe I'm a traditionalist, or just a crotchety old bastard, but a Jeep is not a Jeep unless it has 4 leaf springs and a long, straight dash board.

That being said, it's a pretty cool looking vehicle. It's one that my wife would probably enjoy driving.

Have to agree with ya.

But like many other things in this world, in the end it is all about the money.  They just couldnt make money with models like that.  I don't blame em for adjusting to try to catch more buyers.. just sad that things have to be that way.

bah a jeep has been since the 70s has been what you've been able to do with the jeep. The whole Built not bought thing to me is what a jeep is. All those parts you complain about, arent they argually better offroad than the 4 leefs and a straight dash? Times a' changin tis for sure.,

Hey, don't get me wrong. I think the new Jeep is very capable. My point is this:

I used to be a big Volkswagen guy. I owned and fixed up 3 Bugs, my last being a '70 Baja. When the new Beetle came out, it was pretty cool, but, aside from some styling cues, it was in no way a VW Beetle. Not to say that the New Beetle isn't more comfortable, reliable, and capable than the older ones, it just isn't a Beetle.

My jeep is stock right now, except for some 31 inch tires, and after seeing the videos of the '07s, I'm quite sure that they would smoke mine on any trail unless I did some mods to mine. Isn't that the point though. You buy a stock Jeep, and then start looking for parts for it to make it better off-road. Customizing the stock Jeep to me is the fun part.

Doesn't it come with 32's stock, can't see it being much of a difference.
