Advance Adapters AX15 to Jeep 4 Cylinder Adapter Plate
Paso Robles, CA - Due to bigger tires and lower gearing, the AX5 becomes the weak link in most late model 4 cylinder Jeeps (YJs & TJs).  Advance Adapters is proud to introduce an adapter plate to mate the larger AX15 Jeep 6 cylinder version transmission to the stock 4 cylinder bellhousing.  This kit works for both internal and external hydraulic applications and upgrades both the NP231 & NP207 to a 23 spline input.  This kit also fits the Atlas transfer case.

But isn't it MUCH cheaper to just get a bellhousing from a late 90's 4 cylinder dodge dakota? Same motor w/ an ax-15 and all?

^ i'd imagine so... thats what i'd do if i were in the market for a ax15. I was going to do a ax15 swap, but found a rebuilt ax5 for too cheap to pass up lol.

It takes more than just a bellhousing to adapt an AX15

I am currently working on the conversion which requires; changing the bell housing, changing the input gear on the NP231 to a 23 spline, machining a custom pilot bearing, replacing or modifying the driveshafts, modifying the trans mounting, changing to a 10 spline clutch, changing the shifter linkage, and changing to an external slave cyl depending the year. Time and cost?
After a call to AA they quoted $450 for adapter, $190 for 23 spline NP231 input gear, $24 for new shifter linkage, total $600-$650 may vary slightly depending on year Jeep you have.

If i were you i'd look for the dodge bell housing and ebay for the input shaft, or just switch to a new to you 23 spline transfer case and sell off your 21 spline case. Good luck on the swap, keep us updated on your progress :thumb:

I called "Midnight Auto" wrecking yard in San Bernardino and they put my request on their computer board and found me an ax 5 w/30,000 miles for $600 like three years ago. But I realized that it was not my tranny, but me, racing like it was a porshe grinding gears and all, screwing my dog teeth. Other than that 4wd hardware has parts for the tranny I think. I have never messed with the internals of a tranny though.
