I installed a LED blinker and found out why my windshield diffuser wasn't working correctly (broken). This thing was in the way so I cut the tie wraps holding it up and moved it with my arm/hands. The thing is the cylinder shaped item just right of the column. Its somehow cable connected to the ignition switch to something under the shifter console. When I was working on figuring out the diffusers and the vacuum, I had ran the engine to get vacuum. This thing got warm. There is a small electrical wire on it, appears to be a cable insulated, cable length looks to be adjustable, goes from steering column to under the shifter console. While wheeling yesterday, it got too hot to hold. In the pics I moved it to show the part, its usually tucked up higher and the cable to the console it higher than the floor duct.
TJ specs: 97 SE, basic, no tilt, no ac, no cruise, 4cyl/auto
Anyone have a service manual to tell?
I was thinking something to do with airbag, but then why would it get hot? Then thought shifter release, but again, why would it get hot and be solidly mount to the release mechanism vs being an electrical relay type of thing?
Wheeling on News Year, I couldn't hold it as it got way too hot.
