Who else has a 1990?
« on: January 18, 2007, 03:09:40 PM »
I have a 1990 red yj.  It has the TBI.  Its pretty much stock with the exception of 31's and a K&N drop in filter.  I've done a few to the inside.  I have a tuffy center console with a kenwood cd player.  I have an overhead speaker bar and an IPOD hook up.  Other than that, thats it.  I have plans for a few things like exhaust and I may try to make an intake.  I just want to see what other people have and have done.  I need some inspiration.  Cheers.

I have a red 90 yj, stock as a rock, dd, just mounted up some 30/9.5/15 wrangler gsa's on stock rims painted black, overhead soundbar and smittybuilt console. Tj rear bumper and both front and rear track bars removed(handles much better). 210,000 miles a little blow by and sounds like a cross between a sewing machine and a diesel. Other than that i love it. Oh yeah I also have another motor waiting to go in as soon as this one finally gives up. No more big mods planned in the near future, I also have a 88 xj wagoneer with 6" lift, 34s, sye, d44 rear, powertrax in rear and detroit ez locker in front 4.10 gears. It's the Jeep that most of my Jeepin money goes to. Soon to get a hp44 in front with custom 4 link and 9 in.  out back.

I haven't done much to "this" engine, but I do have plans.  My plan is to get a empty block and start getting nice internals.  I plan on going 60 over on block and getting nice forged pistons and so on and so on.  It's something that will take a while but with only 117,000 miles I got time.  It was my dad's jeep and he took care of it.  I got it when he passed, so I have a lot of emotional attachment to it.  I learned to drive on it when I was 16.  So I have to keep it running so when I buy the big one, my son can get pissed at when it leaks oil everywhere.  Cheers.

I also have a red 90 4 cyl- I've been debating the K&N drop in air filter- do you notice any difference over a regular fram?

I didn't really notice any change but then again my motor doesn't have a lot of life left.  I know that in my VW when I upgraded the intake I noticed a huge difference, but then again it's a turbo so you will notice a difference alittle more because the turbo can spool faster.
