Temp Senders
« on: August 15, 2005, 08:37:11 PM »
Ok Swink, here's the color for the sender on the front of the engine.  18VT  That's 18 gauge/ violet, which happens to be the same color as what goes to the gauge.

Looks like the rear temp sender is a 2 wire.  18BR/RD and a 18TN to the sensor.

The thing on the front of the intake on the 4.3L is a temp sender of some sort but I'm not sure if it's the gauge or PCM, or both. GM's FSM sucks.

This looks to be my guage sending unit.  Single wire, and I can match the color to the plug where I got the oil pressure guage to work.

Now I just have to figure out a way to connect the thing.  It's either pipe thread or some metric stuff.  But I think I'll drill and tap the plug that's under the t-stat on the Vortec to make it fit.  Or if I'm real lucky I can just buy an adapter.

3rd one down in this pic

The one on the thermostat housing on the 2.5L looks like #3 and the one at the back of the engine looks like #2.

that's what I meant.  I have one like #3 and it threads right in to the plug on the motor.  I have to figure out how to get #2 to thread in there instead.

I did the infamous XJ guage swap and ended up ordering the temp sender.  I got one like #2, although the existing was like #3.  I just went to the junkyard and pulled the connector from another Jeep that uses #2, spliced it in place of the old wires.

Got a clue that this could all be NPT, and Mr. Kilby seems to think that a 1/4 to 3/8 adapter will do the trick.

I'll pick one up and see
