Volvo's at Hollister Hills ORV

I believe this area is called Five Fingers.   The hill is VERY steep.  Love the sound of those low gears and the little engine reving away.  On and that's a Volvo C303.  Those are what's being talked about in 6699's Jeep post.

wow those are some low gears... things look big and top heavy but they really go..
1990 YJ 4cly, ax5, 2.5 inch BDS lift, 31 MTr\'s,  Powertrax-lockers all around, track-bars removed, boomerang shackles, warn m8000 winch, electric fan. [sold but not forgotten]

They are fairly small and pretty light, too.  Larger then a Jeep but not as long as a suburban.

Looks like he's maybe 40-60:1.  Lots of lurching, too.  Is he running an auto?  Turning his lockers on BEFORE getting stuck might have helped too.  :whistle: It's hard to tell, but with those beadlocks, I'd drop the air pressure really low.  I think it would have made it much more smoother with the additional traction.

This is one of the reasons I'd want to run an Atlas 4 or a Klune/Stak a final ratio in the 160-200:1 range with axle ratios in the 5.38 range.  There's an older video of fourbangeryj at Johnson Valley walking up huge stuff that had 4.0L's having trouble.  He's running a D20 with a Klune V 4:1.

If he's still running the stock 4.2 Diesel 1HZ, should be mated to an auto. Ha ha. Front lockers. I still get confused when and not to use them. Almost flipped the jeep over when I climbed right out of a bend in the trail onto a ledge on account of the front lockers turned on! Could't steer at all.

160-200:1 range. That's an insane reduction. I'm on about 80:1 and that makes 1st gear quite useless. Only use it like about 1% of the time... Well, then again, there are no rocks to play on over here....so what do I know?

303s stock are running 3.0 6cyl petrol whose power/torque output is about the same as our 4 bangers. These these are deceptively big too. With a wheelbase of 91 inches, it's shorter than our wranglers. overall length is 171 inches.
