Topic: Spark plugs

I have just the a standard type plug. Anybody using anything special? what do you think?

I just run OE Champions, stock wires.

I've used about 5 different varieties including the "BS," "trick"  plugs in the 4 banger: Bosch Platinum 4s, Splitfire Platinums.  No improvement with those and I just went with Champion copper cores for a couple of years after that (Most people here don't advise using Platinums plugs in the 4 banger in general).

When the Iridium plugs started coming on the market, I figured I'd check them out since they did have a bit of a track record in industrial applications.   I found that the Autolite Iridium XP plugs do seem to offer a slight performance improvement versus regular plugs - they seem to require less voltage to fire.  After I installed these Iridium XPs, my 2.5 actually idled high for a couple of days until the computer adjusted for the difference in electrical resistance.    Iridium plugs apparently last, too.

You can't go wrong with your basic copper-core NGK or Champion plugs.  If you are ok with maybe a modest, 1-2% performance improvement and low electrode wear for about $25 for a set of 4 plugs, then the Iridium XPs are good, too.

I've always had good luck with good ol fashion Champion, but, and now for something completely different, I am trying the Bosch Duals in the 4-banger and Bosch Platinum I's in the 4.0. I have the Firepower ignition in both and they seem to do well, but then, I haven't tried any other plug to compare them with yet. They seem to like the Firepower setup, especially in the 4-banger, major difference in idle and start up time, cranks and starts quick. But, I would also likely buy what is on sale and sounds good at the time when I go to get new plugs again.
