a four banger smoking a honda?? never happen, you where just being cocky, but remember when you hit black ice, weather your a honda jeep or a freaking 18 wheeler your still gonna slide all over the place. not trying to be a dick, but even stock fourbangers suck for speed tho i love mine to death. Oh yea my friend has a honda 96 civic ex, 3.0 c6 ctec motor swap running 7 psi of boost, and has a spray kit sitting in his garage, wanna race him?
I wasn't talking about a straight up race on a dry flat road. I was talking about reagular driving in crapy weather on a wet road. I feel more confident with four wheels with power then two. I think something got lost in the translation. My opinion on hondas is this. You can polish a turd all you want but at the end of the day it's still a turd. Honda + performance = wast of time. Yea it might be fast but its still a honda thats made for economics and nothing else.
Hmmm, I would have to disagree with your statement completely even to the point of calling it ignorant. I have owned 5 hondas, 3 of which had Japanese engines. The hondas that are made for america are exactly as you said, built to be economical, but the hondas that are built for other countrys are not. We get their old engines shipped over here with 30-45k miles on them because in Japan emissions laws require you to replace the engine all together, we get their old low milage engines and they are sold here for cheap. We have hondas here in the us with engines that are only offered here in the US because at the time honda was introduced in America thats what people wanted was fuel efficiency. They designed economy motors for us specifically. Take the 1990 civic SI for example, has a non Vtec 1.6 SOHC AKA D16A6, makes 108 hp, that is the highest end performance honda at that time on the US MARKET, in Japan, the engine that is comperable to what the US SI had, was in their BASE model honda, and their version of the SI (SIR) made 165 horse and was a DOHC Vtec. Not bad for a 2,000 pound car, runs 14's from the factory. That engine can be had for 800 bucks with under 50k miles on it. People dont understand any of this though and usually they are basing their highly uneducated opinions off of the punk teen that has moms old 4 door civic with a muffler on it. Is that car fast? no, was is meant to ever be fast? no, but there are a ton of honda engines out there that were built with anything but fuel efficiency in mind. Look at the Japanese K20A for example, it comes in japanese RSX's and when this engine is put into a CRX or early honda hatchback in stock form it puts the car at 12.80's with drag radials, BONE stock. Just drop in the engine and go. How many 12 second cars do you know of that will still run 300k miles reliably on a stock engine? If you dont beleive me look it up, its no secret. The negative opinions on hondas are ALWAYS made by people that have little or no understanding about the technology of a honda engine and usually these people base opinions off of the punk teenager with a fart pipe on his moms old 4 door as I stated above. Not trying to start any arguements but your comment is like me comming on here and saying that your Jeeps suck even though I have never owned a modified offroad capable Jeep and know reletively nothing about them. (I do own a Jeep, just an example) Do some research before making comments that common sense will tell you are entirely false. Getting a FWD car to hook isnt that large of a task, they put down 800 plus to the front wheels all the time and manage to hook. Your comment about rear wheel drive makes even less sense though, Have you ever been to the drag strip? Rear wheel drive is the best, FWD doesnt hook quite as well usually, and AWD slows you down in the long run. My buddy has a 480 horse 94 hatchback, there is nothing more fun then pulling up to grandpas 06 C6 lightly modded vette and walking all over him by car lengths in a car that has maybe 8k invested. And did I mention they can actually take a corner at decent speed?
Here I have a few "polished turds" for your veiwing pleasure, both are street legal, not all out drag cars, nothing too powerful but well rounded performance cars:
