Rubicon Wheels
« on: August 20, 2005, 05:13:58 PM »
Just thought of an idea which may or may not happen.  In any case, I'd like to hear some opinions.  After seeing a few Jeeps with Rubicon wheels and tires, I'm sorta wondering how they would look on my Jeep.  The only problem being is that I have a SOA on the fornt and a lifted SUA in the rear.  Might be a bit tall but it might be a cheap option to buying all new tires and wheels in a larger size for a daily drive.

How much do used/newish Rubicon wheels and tires?  I believe the tires are around 30/31".  I've got 4.56's so performance should be fine.  Might have to remove my extended flares but I've been wanting to do that for a while.  Might also need to drop the 1.25" body lift, too.

Otherwise, the other option would be to get shorter tires next time around.  Although 35x12.5R15's look damn good on it.  I'd hate to go with a shorter tire without having a second set around.

Anyone in the East Bay Area with Rubicon wheels and tires?

Tires are right at 31" and as you know "E" class... = rough ride...

The problem is they are pricey! Most want over 1k for used wheels/tires...

You could buy a nice set of 32s / 33s a/t radials a lot cheaper if you're looking for economy.

The tire weight is about the same as my 35's.  I'd suspect they are a bit pricey but I haven't bothered to look.  I don't really want to buy new tires since I'd need wheels also.  If I got new wheels they'ed probably be steel and  have more BS so I can bring the tires in a bit.  3.75" is perfect for 35x12.5's without having to adjust the steering stops.  I'd like to bring the tires in 2 inches though.  Then I'd be able to go back to stock flares.

Good friend of mine has 5 '05 Rubicon rims and tires for sale, less than 200 miles on 4 and 0 on the 5th.  Wants $900 +shipping, less than half what they would be new.  Will not seperate.  Lemme know.

never heard of anybody complaining of a rough ride.  They are right at 31" tall.

that price seems about right, going rate is STEEP.

it would look strange, no doubt about it.   when i had my jeep in for service once, they put a set of stock 26's on it, and then took a picture of it for me.  i've got a 4.5" +1"BL on it, and it looked obnoxious as hell.

i think for a DD, either go down a size to 33's, or just keep it the way it is.  otherwise your COG will be quite a bit higher and quite a bit more hairy to drive on the road.

Smaller tires will actually lower the center of gravity, and allow for more control when driving onroad.

I don't follow.  Changing nothing else, smaller tires will lower the COG.
