Bought a highlift and mounted it...
« on: February 15, 2007, 08:52:22 PM »
Not sure if I like how it came out..  Its only going to be here until I get my custom bumpers, then itll be up a little higher.

To mount it all I did was used a bolt with washers and a lock nut to secure them to the bumper, then a locknut to space the jack out and wing nuts to hold it on and for easy access.  Tomorrow I am going to get some spacers to go ever the showing threads and figure out a way to lock it on in case anyone decides they want it.

I had my first Hi-lift mounted there till I got rearended and put a nice bend in the jack.  I was able to fix it but I relocated the jack after that.

The jack looks nice though.  Keep it greased so it doesn't lock up.

I got mine mounted inside in the back it sits in two brackets mounted of the back of the roll cage. To me its a very good spot for a highlift jack and a shovel

That's where I was looking to put one of those myself: mount on the instatrunk or on the inside top of the wheel wells or roll bar.

Bet you what happens if you have a high-lift mounted on the rear bumper is somebody will get distracted looking at this "strange" red piece of equipment where the bumper is, not pay attention to traffic slowing in front of you and then rear end you when you stop abruptly.   But, hey, you get slammed, its an opportunity to upgrade using the insurance money you recover, right?

Best bet is to mount it inside like the last guy.  They just don't like to work when they are full of road dirt. Make sure you carry along a can of penetrating oil, a few shots at the pins will usually get it working again after it's gotten dirty.  I cut about 6" off the top of the jack so it fits better too, even with my big cj I never needed that kind of height.

Looks good.  My only thought...will the wing nuts vibrate loose over time? would suck to loose the jack going down the road  ;)
