Code reader for 94 YJ?
« on: February 17, 2007, 04:08:41 PM »
Anyone know what kind of code reader I need for a 94 YJ?  Finally got to the point of starting the YJ and it won't.  I suspect that it's the CPS, since I had to do some rigging to get it to sit deep enough in the AW4 bellhousing.  Would be nice though if the computer would tell me what the problem is.   I've got a nice OBD2 setup that hooks into my laptop, but the YJ is too old for that.

Also found a nice fuel leak when I powered it back up.  One of the flex lines coming off the tank to the hard lines seems to be dripping away.

YJ's are ODB-I and do not require a code reader.  A '94 will display the error code by turning on and off the ignition 3 times in a row.  So On-OFF-ON-OFF-ON  Then the check engine light will start to flash.  The first number will be a 12.   it will blink once then pause then blink twice.  Then it may bring up a 33.  The final code it a 55.

I've got the flashing light code chart already.

If it's OBD1 I can get a cable for that.  There are lots of data points that you can see real time in addition to error codes if you tap right into the computer.

There are scanners that'll read the YJ system, hookup is through a Chrysler plug on the pass. inner fender.  Many shops should have what you need.
