Changing Oil Pan Seals
« on: March 16, 2007, 11:42:35 PM »
How bad is it? For some reason, mine has been leaking @ 25k miles when I switch to Syn oil, But then I change back to Dyno Oil. :brick: Ever since it still leaking slowly.  :fitz:Since I have my front end, Exhaust, and etc out of the way. I think this is a good time to change the Oil Pan Seal.  :smile:Plus, I also have a big dint in the pan too. :brick: So should I change that too?
 :puzzled:
Thanks
Anthony

why do people always think that it synth that causes leaks? oh cause you look more cause your worried about them? or maybe its cause synth flows better (half the reason to use it) and shows your leaks better?

anyway, if your going to do the oil pan gasket i really recommend finding aviation grade gasket prep. its really sticky and messy as all $^%*, but i have never had it blow out any seal, even really cheap paper ones i've even ripped. it's worth the money for the extra peace of mind.

I got the dealer rubber gasket sitting in my garage. I have no money to replace the pan I dented right now though.

the stuff i use is called pro seal, and if i remember right it's made by the same company that makes super glue.  i cant for the life of me where i got though. might want to check your local parts store or a industrial supply company (grainger or such) for it. or any other aviation grade prep. its made to with stand 500 degrees and stays tacky. if you can find it its worth every penny.

Well I order some Fel-Pro Oil Pan Seals from Advance Auto Parts. So do I use Pro Seal with the Gasket? Found the Web Site. Prosealproducts.com

Thanks

gasket prep is just thta, a prep. clean the surface real good, (duh), then brush on the prep. set the gasket on the prep on the pan, i usually put the bolts through backwards or use little clips to hold it in place, let it tack up for a few minutes, then lightly brush the top so it will seal to the motor.

i've only ever used it with paper or cork gaskets just for the extra help, but never with rubber. i dont know if you could or even should with rubber. you'd do best to read the bottle/can of the prep to know if you can.

there are brands for automotive use, same company that makes thread locker, which would probably work just fine, but when its a part that sucks to get to, or i really don't want it leaking, i use the aviation grade.

Well, I picked up the gasket and about to start on the oil gasket seal. I was wondering is there a special way to remove the Starter? Plus, Do I need to Jack up to motor to relieve pressure on the Motor Mounts?
