They fit after you make the mounting brackets for them. The advantage for me was it's definitely better than the thin gauge metal used on the stock bumper. And it only cost me $80.00 total compared to the almost $300.00 I would have spent if I bought an after market bumper that I liked. 8) Oh, and like chardrc said... military coolness. Ideally I'd like to buy the GPW that I posted pics of in the past but that guys not selling it. He'd rather let it sit on his lot and rot. Since I can't afford a military vehicle that's in good shape I may as well buy surplus and add it to the TJ where I can. Looks good and made to last. ;)

if you look at oldjeep's build up in the members project area he has one of these

Yup, that's where I got the idea from. I like the way oldjeep put it all together. It should be here by the end of the week. I'm going to use angle iron to make the mounting brackets. Then it will get painted a flat black or... taken down the street to have it powder coated at a local shop. Only problem is if I do that then I have to completely strip it. Oh well, I guess we'll see how I coat it. Anyway, the tow shackles came in today and they are HUGE. The D-ring is large enough for me to put my fist through and each pin is 1" thick! They are [censored] huge. For those I got some 1/4" steel diamond plating from the scrap yard that I am going to mount to the frame rails in the front similar to a winch plate. Then I'll mount the D-rings to it.

That's the same guy I got mine from ;)

One word of warning, wear a mask when you are grinding and welding on that bumper.  The military paint is extremely toxic, you'll get a headache for days if you suck in too much of it.  If you are planning on stripping all the paint, I'd have someone sandblast it.

The clowns'? Oh, yeah, the clowns. We fight them too — entire armies, spilling out of Volkswagons. We do our best to fight them off, but they keep sending 'em in!

Not only is it toxic, its cancer causing.  The paint is called CARC (Chemical, Agent, Reactive, Coating)  Do not breath that crap.  Cheers.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll definitely wear a mask while stripping it. Or... maybe I'll just paint it. Sandblasting is a good idea. A friend of mine has a blasting cabinet so that's an option.

CARC isn't any more dangerous than any other paint.  Any risks associated with CARC come when putting it on.  CARC stands for chemical agent resistant coating.  It doesn't REACT with chemical agents, it resists it and allows it to be decontaminated easier.  Good score on the bumper at any rate.
