I was able to barrow a set of 33x12.5 Yokohama MT on alloy rims. I really was pleasantly surprised. first I didn't think they would fit with only a 2 1/4 BB but they fit fine no rubbing lock to lock even went over some ruts and no rub. I sure if I went on a hardcore trail they could probably rub but I just have logging trails here.
Secondly the power loss wasn't that bad I drove home 65 in 4th on the  flat 4 lane with pedal to spare and 60 to 65 on the 2 lane with a lot of hills. in 5th I would hit a a hill a 65 and by the time I would hit the top I would be only down to 60. I'm sure I could have shifted to 4th and kept 65 but I was just testing things out. I think it feels better in 4th with 33's then in 5th with the 215. I couldn't believe how heavy my stock steel rims with 215 tires felt. I had a 33 in one arm a 215 in the other and it felt about the same however I'm sure there not.

without regearing your pretty uch gonna loose 5th gear unless your going down hills

Yeah, those alloys make alot of difference. For my next tire purchase I will get the super swamper tire that is odd ball size of 32x10.50x15 Radial TSL. It is taller, but not as wide, but the tread life is horrible on road, but loses weight on the trails by being an inch thinner than the 12.50's.

Lucky you. Is this on a TJ? My first Jeep was a 2000 sport with a 3" body lift ( I didn't know any better yet) and my 33's rubbed the sway bar when I made sharp turns. My solution to that was to just remove the sway bar. Anyway, cool to hear the 33's worked for you.

it's 98 TJ 4:11 gears. put on over a 100 miles on yesterday never rubbed. almost ever time I look at my speed on the gps I was speeding and I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up with traffic. I will laugh if i get a ticked with something that top out at 70 when my truck has 300hp and I never been ticked.

The radial TSL's don't wear as bad as some people think, there's definitely worse wearing tires out there for as aggressive as they are. That's my next tire also.

I am going to see if I can't mount them on rims and keep them to the side and only use them for offraod.
I hear they will last about two years at average mileage, so like 30,000-35,000 miles. My old bfg at's lasted double that and still had tread, so for me bfg's were good. My jeep is my Daily driver, and my other ride is a 25 year old japanese  :weee: that I fixed up from the dead.
