TF-904 Vs. the 909. ANother auto trans question
« on: May 30, 2007, 01:30:54 PM »
Being as the TF-909 is the same auto trans as the 904 but with a locking converter, and electronically controlled.... will a shift kit for the 904 work in the 909? I could really use some help with this one so if anyone knows please inform. I've got some $$$ for some mods and the tranny is next on the list.

If the 904 shift kit won't work... what about the use of a chip to increase the line pressure to get the same affect?

That would be my guess as the AW4 is the only electronically shifted jeep trans I know of.  I don't know my auto trannies very well.

Thanks Bounty Hunter. I know a few of us are running autos on here. It's odd to me that someone doesn't have more knowledge on them. I did some research and from what I can tell I should be able to use a shift kit from a 904/909 on my trans.

I found a shift kit from " Superior Transmission Parts Inc." that will work with the (518 / 618 / 500 transmissions 1989 to 2002) 30RH auto trans. TransmissionCenter.net confirmed that the only thing controlled electronically is the converter... In case anyones interested. ;)

Good to know, were you able to find anything on a torque converter with a lower stall?

Yup, Superior Transmission Parts Inc. also carries torque converters. Actually, I think they rebuild the stock converter to the customer specs. However, the Mobil DTE 25 is supposed to lower the stall speed a bit when added to the converter. It's going to be a month or so before I get to doing all of this but I'll post and let everyone know the outcome.

I was talking to a few of the guys from Art Carr and they said they've been running the DTE 25 in many of there transmissions. They were good enough to return an email I sent them with many questions.

I may end up running a 50/50 mix of DTE and my regular trans fluid. We'll see when the time comes.
