not rlly direct swap, need change lots of stuff motor mounts being main of them, just turbo you 2.5, or at that time swap a 4.0 into it, that'd be a direct swap if you just change motor mounts.

Nothing bolts up.  This means you'll be swapping the transmission as well as the engine.  Not to mention all of the additional sensors required for OBDII to work.  Then you've got to rig up the turbo to the engine or else mix and match parts with the SRT4 and Jeep engine.

It would be a lot easier to setup a turbo on the 2.5L.  Not to mention, you'll still have more low-end torque with the 2.5L.  Would be fairly simple to do I think.  At least mounting the turbo.  The hard part would be adjusting the air/fuel to meet the increased air flow.  It can be done though.  I'd like to maybe Turbo my 2.5L eventually....or maybe go diesel...

If i went to a 4.0 the input shaft on the tc is 21 slpine for the 4cyl and 23 for the 6 right? so id have to change tc's unless you meant use my ax 5 and then id break it right?

You will need a new transmission, too.  You can swap input shafts on the transfer case fairly easily.  Costs about $150 for teh new input shaft.  It will still require a new PCM as well as a new engine wiring harness.  You will also need to replace the engine mounts on the frame.  With all that work, you might want to consider a V8, a diesel or even a V6...

A turbo seems fairly easy to install but finding someone who had done one that works isn't so easy.  The so called 'instructions' I've seen are far from being a How-to.  my main concern is getting the air/fuel correct.  Not only that but make it all 100% removable so it can be run normally for emissions.

There's a lot more to it than that, not to mention you have to fab new motor mount perches, not just 'change motor mounts'.

I've got a couple 23spl input shafts for the 231 if anybody is interested in swapping in a 4.0L and reusing their transfer case.  Pretty sure they fit the AX15.  $50 +shipping.  Lots of other 231 parts on hand too.

I'll be posting up a thread hopefully beginning of july. My turbo is mounted infront of my motor (electric fan so i have room to spare), i have a saab sidemount intercooler mounted upfront (i had to cut the radiator mounting/grill to allow for the charge pipes to pass through), i'm going to be modifying the b-pipe of my pacesetter header to route to the turbo, and then the exhaust from the turbo is being routed to the stock exhaust location (this is the stuff i still need to do, but won't have a chance until june 28th at the earliest, i have tests this week and then going out of town next week). I'm using megasquirt to control my air/fuel ratio along with my plx m-300 so i'm good in terms of the a/f ratio. I'm also using a steel braided oil feed and return line set-up. It is definately doable to make it completely removeable, but since i live in florida and dont have emissions i didn't worry about it.

Lets move all turbo related questions over to the Work Bench.  This is about swapping for the most part...
