Driveshaft length

I need to know the length of a stock driveshaft U-joint center to center for a manual and auto to see if there is a difference. Anybody got some info?

AX-5 Manual is the longest of the bunch.  Next comes the Auto, then the 4.0L manual and finally the 4.0L Auto.

There is a significant difference.  The rear generally ranges from 11"  ??? to 15.5".

Any idea the difference between the 4 cyl ax-5 and the 4cyl auto? I had more of the slip yoke exposed than stock from the lift so I need to know if I can use one from an AX-5 in my auto. My current shaft is MIA so I don't have it for comparison. If it's just an inch or so longer I'm thinking it will put the slip back to where it was before the lift.

I can tell you that my 97 4cyl auto had a 15.5" DS, there can be a harmonic dampener that will change  the length a little.

Well, it's always better to go with the longest one possible, especially if you're lifted.  The difference between the shortest and the longest is around 5".

Well, I found one from an AX-5 for 30.00 that I should pick up tomorrow. I'll post the results. Thanks guys.

I've got 'em in 14.5" and 15.5" length if you or anybody else needs one.  Not much of a market for the 11" shaft I've got.

I'll keep you in mind. I'm thinking about making a plug out of a slip yoke for towing. Drill/tap a 1/4-20 hole into the output shaft and throw a bolt through the center of the yoke so I can keep the driveshaft in the jeep while it's on the dolly. Could also run in FWD if I had to for whatever reason. Gotta get my junk running first though.

Depending on how the Yj is lifted, the longest shaft may not be the best way to go.  If it is lifted with shackles with the flat stock leaf springs the distance from the axle to the TC will decrease with compresion of the suspension and could cause an impact to the rear of the TC.  With lift leaf springs this would not be such a problem since with compresion of the suspension the distance from axle to TC will decrease in the vertical direction but increase in the horizontal direction, somewhat canceling out.

According to what I have;

2.5L Manual is 15-3/8" Long
4.0L Manual is 13-1/4" Long
4.0L Auto is 14-7/8" Long

I can't find the listing for the 2.5L Auto but I know it's close to the 4.0L Auto.

No, the TJ slipyokes are quite a bit different.

I've got a couple 14.5" shafts, I think they came off the 2.5L auto if I'm not mistaken.

The TF999/32RH is shorter then the AX-15.  Probably because it's a 3-speed tranny.  The AX-15 is pretty long on comparison to other trannys.
