its gona be built out of 1.25 mild steel and i want it to look clean with both the top on and off . also ill be mounting 4 lights on the front one on the back and some work lights on each side . my biggist issue is how to get it mounted to the jeep and not look goofy. also its not gona be holding a lot of weight , its just for camping stuff

Well, I have an old school, type roof rack made by Con-Ferr (non-existent).  The rack bolts straight to my hardtop with a sort of door hinge setup.  No lights up top since those usually get really beaten up on the trails.  Not to mention having a lot of weight up there will cause the Jeep to lean a lot more.  The newer type of racks mount to the body of the Jeep which allows you to have the rack on a soft top Jeep as well as no top.

I'd look at the Garvin setup though.  They make a good one.  I'd suggest making some type of protector for the lights or else keeping them small and cheap.
