Topic: wattery dash... agian

ok so when i got my 1990yj it had a bad gasket/ seal where the windshield folds down so every time it rained water would run down the dash. resulting in electrical issues and lots of rust in the dash. so needless to say i put in a new one shortly after i got the jeep. so that had seemed to fix the problem although i only drove it in the rain ounce since then and it was dark but as far as i could tell it didn't leek. so now today i move my jeep so i can cut the grass to see water running out the side of my dash when i get a little at an angle. looks to me leek waters going down the windshield and in between the gasket and the windshield face and then working its way under the windshield frame but over the seal and into the dash area. this seal is only 1.5 years old adn shouldn't be leeking. any suggestions on how to stop the leakage. ow and its been raining allot here and i haven't driving my jeep for almost a month now if that makes a difference. 1990yj thanks for any replies

anyone have any problems like this. should i just apply massive amounts of silicone to the seal of what.

idk but silocone cld work out nicee, but try nd do it on the inside be fugly on the outside

Might want to get out the hose and make sure where the water is coming in.  Could also be coming in around the door seals.   The rain and wind we've had recently is capable of driving water past even a good seal.

true. about the wind thing.. and my soft upper doors seals aren't that great. if it wasn't so darn hot and humid outside id be looking into it now. i will probably look into it ounce i finish my physics homework.

about my "native" language i didn't even notice his spelling mishaps until the next comment was about it... thank god for Mozilla Firefox having spell check.

ow on a different note. warn has worintied my rear bumper that has fadded room siting in the sun for a year. so i should have a new bumper coming soon

You will need to use a hose to see where it's leaking from.  If the seal was replaced I'd really check the cowl seam.  This is where the the cowl connects to the upright that starts the windshield frame on the body.  Basically in that 80* angle area under the windshield frame where the vent is.  The calk gets old over the years and shrinks.  If it shrinks it may pull away from one side allowing water to enter.  If you decide to fix it I suggest not using clear silicone.  You want something that will dry smooth and not feel sticky to the touch.

BTW: if you have a spare bumper, I can give it a good home.

i don't know the details on if i have to send the old one back or not. i didn't car that mush about the fading but my dad has the same bumper and the paint chipped and rusted after 1 winter of salt and sand. 
i think shipping from mn to California would have a hefty shipping cost. and i may convert the old one into a front bumper and repaint it myself although i kinda like my stock chrome one cuz it resembles the original jeep front bumpers.

ill have to spray some water at the jeep with the hose sometime when its not already raining / when the grass isnt already so went where my jeep is parked that its turning into a mud pit. this calking you talk of. is that so posed to be where the sheat metal that the plastic dash screws into meats with the rest of the body? cuz when we replaced the seal that was 90% rusted away up top so we used some rust reversal stuff and painted it before putign the dash back together and such. but the calkign we saw there didn't look very stock(very messy).

Well, let me know what you decide.  I doubt it will be that expensive to ship ground.

No, further down...  On the outside of the Jeep.  The sealany is sprayed over with paint so it will match the Jeeps color.  It's not that big black cowl seal.

I had a similar problem, and it turned out to be the wires of my windshield mounted KC Daylighters that had just enough room for water to get in while driving at highway speeds (I guess the wind had something to do with that).  But from what I see, you do not have windshield mounted lights, so might not be the same problems as you have...

DAMNIT!!!  it rained last night, had a hard time starting the jeep this morning, but no big deal. went to a JOB INTERVIEW and couldn't start it when i left, uh-oh. floor boards were wet lokked under the dash and everything is soaked!!!  just wanted to share my pain with some one who might under stand.
