any one make a big display gps speedometer?
« on: November 06, 2007, 08:38:00 PM »
Looking for a gps speedometer that I can safely read while diving. I don't need any other functions, just speed and maybe a trip. I have a Lowrance ifinder but it's readout is way to small.
I might be wrong but i looked for a speedo gear for 33's with 4:88's and can't find one.

Gear wise, what you looking for should be on this page.

Otherwise the Garmin 2610 has a pretty good sized display. I use the speedo on it all the time. Works great. They are discontinued but you can find remanufacutred ones on eBay pretty cheap.
02 2.5.L automatic: 4.0L t.b., 4.0l air intake, K&N filter, Scream'n Demon coil, 8.5mm MSD Super Conductor plug wires, Stage 1 Jet Chip, 29" BFG all terrain KO's. Taurus E-fan, Hummer front bumper, Skyjacker high capacity trans pan, 48" hi-lift, Rubi susp w. 3/4" BB.

Interesting how they lump YJ and TJ speedometer gears together when they are not the same.  Also they are overcharging.  Use teh chart in the FAQ then go to the Dealer with the part #.  If they can get it it's $12.

I have a Garmin 2610 and it works pretty good.  I use it for navagation and tracking mostly and can still read the MPH overlay.  I recommend buying a referbished 2610 BUT from an authorized dealer.  I think Tigerdirect has them for cheap.  The reason for buying iit from a resaler is that Garmin might not honor the Free Map upgrade policy.

Not all YJ speedo gears are the same, late model YJ's use the same as the TJ.

If you're having trouble finding the correct speedo gear, www.tacomaspeedometer.com stocks them.

You missed the part where it says that you need the GPS itself, which is listed at the bottom of the page.

Seems like something that wouldn't be good on a Jeep.  There are many times where my GPS will take a while to connect.  If I'm in a hurry and start driving off, it could take even longer.

Still, I think $12 for a 5 minute job is cheaper then spending money on a GPS.  The PCM does need to be calibrated otherwise the fuel curves will be off.

Myself, I experience problems where my GPS momentarily looses contact with the satellites due tall buildings in my area. If I only relied on my GPS speedo then I'd be out of luck in those cases.
