Question on ECU (aka PCM, computer) part #s
« on: January 19, 2008, 06:40:51 PM »
What's the correct OEM part number for an ECU for a '95 2.5 liter YJ with 5 speed manual?  ecudirect lists 56028829 as the correct unit, but others are telling me 56028828.  Does anyone know?  Gracias!

I recently had to replace mine and have the number written down at home, let me see if I can find it tonight to post it in the morning.

Thanks for checking.  Just curios, what size tires are you running with those 4.56 gears?  VA_YJ

Sorry I forgot to check last night.  I'll put a paper in my shirt pocket this time so it won't get past me again.

About the tires, just 30x9.5 for now.  The YJ will get lifted probably around the end of this month and tires will be upgraded to 32x11.5 or 33x10.5 around summer time.

I'm running 31x10.5 with 4.11 gears - the ratio is too tall. I really need 4.56s to keep the engine in the powerband.  You would probably be better with the 32s unless you plan on regearing to 4.88.

I do like the idea of the 33x10.5 instead of 33x12.5.  Less weight for the 4 banger to turn and easier to steer, but with good ground clearance.

I purchased an engine form a 95 2.5L 5spd manual. The engine came with the ECU and its part # is 56028828 09/19/94. Hope that helps.

Thanks JimJ.

I'd go with a light color on that desert jeep.  I have no AC and white paint.  VA_YJ

That's the same number I had ( 56028828) with a date of 11/22/95.  Good luck.

Mine is not a daily driver so I think it will work out OK, the worst that can happen is I will have to stop using 5th on the highway when driving to a trail.  Then again lower would also have been better for off-road.  My main reason for 4.56 instead of 4.88 was a long term plan to swap in an SM420, which has no overdrive.  Then 4th will work well on the highway and the granny low will take care of crawling off road.

neale_rs,

Thanks for your help.  I found the correct ECU on e-bay for about $100. :beers:

Good luck on your upgrades, I think I'd go with the 33s given your long term plan.  Have you looked at the inertia ring (weight) that mounts on your flywheel to help prevent stalling (and clutch wear) when crawling?  That might be a good mod for a mostly trail use rig.

Great buy!  I'll look into the inertia ring option, or maybe an engine swap.
