Topic: Pilot Bearing Question

Can anyone tell me which direction my new pilot bearing should go, it has an o-ring on one end and the service manuals are no help. Should the o-ring face in or out? I have seen a picture with it facing out but my old bearing had it facing inward? Seems like it would be better to have o-rings on both ends but this is the bearing I got from the dealer. This is on a 97-98 TJ 2.5L AX5 Trans.

In my opinion the o ring should go towards the trans to keep dirt and moisture out

Thanks, I agree that seems to be the better choice, I was doing some googling and read Dodge is selling them with o-rings on both sides now to keep the grease in longer but my dealer did not have them for the Jeep yet. I did find Valvoline ATF+4 at Autozone finally which is a full synthetic for the t-case and Royal Purple Synthetic 75-90W gear oil for the tranny. Found an excellent link below showing the best oils to use in a Jeep.

I have had EXCELLENT results with Redline MT90 in my AX5...  Shifts VEEERY soft now.
