Its so nice when....
« on: March 15, 2008, 05:18:55 PM »
You know all you've got under the hood of your Jeep are 4 angry squirells, but you have the cohones *I am sorry for butchering that* to rev em up next to what appears to be a Wrangler X, and they rev back at you, which sounds awfully close to a 4 banger, and the light turns green, and you own them...

Yes, I know its a jeep, not a car, so it's not made to go fast, but I figured I'd get raped anywho.

Moral of the story: Be happy with what you have. Don't try to make others think you have a I6, when you only have an I4.

It was more than obvious he had an I4, based on the high whine of the motor...

I'll probably get killed here for this comment, but when I bought a friend of mine a '94 Sahara with the I6 (it also had some other goodes like the Stage 2 chip, K&N, snorkel, regeared, etc.) with 33" I did not really feel that much more kick compared to my I4 with 31's...  Not to say that I felt mine stronger, but the difference was barely noticeable.  And now that my I4 has some more goodies, they would probably end up being in the same ballpark as far as take-off if I ran 33's with 4.88s...

Where the I6 shines is the low end torque.  My kids 4.0L/AW4 Comanche is a dog off the line compared to my 2.5L/AW4 YJ.

Yeah, I heard that from a couple of people...  I guess that's where the engine size difference becomes obvious.  That, and driving down the highway at 70+ mph.

ya the 2.5 isn't that bad, when I bought mine everybody was like your gonna hate that, its such a dog.  The only time I really get upset with mine is on the highway.  Which I can't really get to mad, its what it was designed for...

im on 32s with stock gearing and it still has nice take off.  Starts to really drop off after 45 mph though.  I never drove the jeep on stock tires but I'm sure I would love driving it with 4.88s.  People underestimate the 2.5l which is great sometimes when you outperform another rig with a bigger engine.  Whether it is off the line or on the trail.

Saturday I was the only Jeep that had a 4 banger and I was also one of four out of twelve that didn't need a winch cable this weekend.  Off trail I see no difference in a 6 or 4 that is set up right.  On street I can tell you that anyone that knows what they are doing will whoop your ass with a six.  I have access to both and anyone with a six that can't beat a 4 is an idiot, moron , dumb ass driver.  If you feel that I am wrong come to Chattanooga, TN and I will prove you wrong.

I'd imagine that.  Only way I'd see a four banger outperforming the six is if the six was severely under geared.  Hell a lot of people I have talked to say they prefer the four in some situations and call the six overpowered.  lol  .

Ya, I find sometimes when I use low..its too low sometimes for hill climbing so I put it in high and first gear, pick up some speed (nothing to crazy) and it works, I make it up the hill...most of the time.  What do you guys suggest on high climbs with a 4cyl? How do you tackle a hill? lol
