Your not kidding it is a pain in the A@@ to get too.  I uses 80-90w gear oil and it was a fun, dirty job....

Oh, dont even get me started on that one!  I was using a hand pump to get the oil up there, and during one of the pumps, the plastic tube came loose, and I had a big gush of oil landing on my face!  I am very glad I did this because I think the wrong oil had been used before (hence the hard shifting before and soft shifting after), but I would not be a happy camper if I had to do this all over again!

Thanks I need to do this some time, cause I know lost some fluid when I floped a few weeks ago it runs fine but I know it has not been changed since I have had it for the last 3 years.  :stick:

According to the Jeep Service Manual:

"RECOMMENDED LUBRICANT
Recommended lubricant for AX 4/5 transmissions is Mopar 75W-90, API Grade GL-5 gear lubricant, or equivalent SAE rated gear lubricant.  Correct lubricant fill level is to the bottom edge of the fill plug hole. The fill plug is at the passenger side of the adapter housing Fig. 4). The drain plug is at the bottom of the case.  Approximate dry fill lubricant capacity is 3.3 liters (3.5 qts.)."

Again, though, I recommend Redline MT90, as I have had great results with it...
