« on: April 06, 2008, 06:18:18 PM »
hey,
thinkin about getting poisen spyders comp rear fenders on my TJ, because i allready have the front tube fenders and i want to clear 35inch tires.
in the front i can clear fine but the rear is the problem. Can any one tell me how hard they are to install and what you did with your gas filler.
I allready have led tail lights so thats no big deal i just can't figure out what to do with the gas filler. if anyone has some pics i would really
      like to see them .
Thanks and keep um rubber side down !

You don't need comp cuts to clear 35's.   How much lift are you running right now?

I've got four inches of lift and i'm trying not to go any higher because i have the suspension pretty much the way i like for wheelin and drive everyday at 80mph! Plus with the tube fenders on the front it looks stupid with 33's . And i'm not a fan of body lifts cause if u breakit in the woods ur finished.

If you havn't got enough room at 4" , that seems odd.  There are several guys in my club running 35's on TJ's with 4" of lift and no body lift.

But anyways, the whole idea of a comp cut is so you can move the axle back a few inches - which means that the fuel tank needs to be replaced with an in jeep fuel cell or one of Genrights special tanks which are back from the axle.

Personally I think comp cuts with 35's and the axle in the stock location will look pretty silly, and won't give you much additional space.

But, leaving all that asside and keeping the stock tank, I'd move the filler to the top of the fenderwell facing up.

i would have enough room on the street but the problem is wheelin because i disconnect my sway bars and get a ton of flex. is there another kind of fenders i could put on the back that may look better and still give me the room i need?

You could cut the fenders up higher, or put on the correct bumpstops to limit your up travel.  Most lift kits don't come with the proper bumpstops or bumpstop extensions.

though about cutting them but i still don't think i would have the room with out cutting alot of sheet metal and i would weaken it up alot. with the corners you would strenghten the body up some by adding the metal. I don't have the correct bump stops and i have to say i like the extra flex i just don't jump my jeep or take drop off's very hard and its works really well. I just have to use alittle extra judgement when wheeling.

If you are not going to bumpstop correctly, at least make sure that your shocks are not becoming the bumpstops.  To strengthen the panels, I'd go with some conventional corners with tube flares.  Something like these:

I'll be running 35's with a 4" lift and using the PS corners with tube flares added.

Pretty much the same thing as the sniperfab corners except they are almost double the price and welds that look like the guy welding was having a seizure.

Which ones, the Sniperfab or PSC??

I'm actually getting standard PSC crusher corners and JCR will be fabbing the flares on there for me so they match the front.

Then the PSC ones are only about $100 more than the sniperfab.   Unless they have finally stopped doing it, PSC always liked to do a "decorative" weld which consisted of a whole lot of cold lap spotwelds.  Since they are not building your flares, you won't have any.  (I just can't stand PSC for a whole bunch of reasons)

hey old jeep thanks for the link to SFW i'm really thinking about buy them. Mainly because they look a lot more street legal and will add alot of strength to the body plus i don't need to worrie about the gas filler .
Mozman 68 cant wait to see how your fenders will turn out. are you moving the axle back?
