Ugly header?
« on: April 17, 2008, 03:25:39 PM »
I just got my Banks Torque Tubes and they are...um...ugly.  The ones in the pictures are shiny.  You can't hardly see the welds because they are so smooth.  Mine is not shinny and the welds have brown rings near them.  Is this normal for a SS header?  Is it like a restaurant where the food on the plate never looks like the food on the menu?  Don't mean to complain, I was just curious as to what I should expect.

You could buff them up, but they will look like exhaust pipes again after you start the jeep up.

Kinda like the burgers at your local fast food place - look like art in the ads, uglier but functional in person.

I'd be more upset if it showed up looking like this - half welded ;)

They are half welded on the outside and 360 degree welded on the inside.  I got it at the shop being installed.  If it sounds better and has a little more power, then I'll be happy.  :thumb:

I got a set of torque tubes and a monster exhaust a few weeks ago directly from Banks.  The ones in the quadratech picture are painted, or coated.  Your right...they should show a picture of what they put in the box.  It is 400 series stainless tubing that is heat resistant...it looks decent but not at all like the pic.
Be care-full if you decide to paint it, or coat em...the 400 series stainless is designed to release heat and coating it prevents that somewhat.  Header wrap will usually void most warranty's too.   It still looks better than the stock one to me...and not ugly at all...for an engine part.
The monster exhaust muffler is polished stainless and looks like a mirror bright chrome finish. That is until you scratch it on the first rock you climb!  :thumb:
Bottom line is Banks is one of the best,  great headers and an awesome exhaust!  When will they make the Ram- Air cold air intake system for the 2.5?! :brick:

I always thought that you should try to keep your exhaust hot to keep the gas density constant so that it would aid in scavanging....

A few heat ups and cool downs it would look like ass anyways.  Mud will bake on eventually.  Unless you take it to car show and put the hood up I wouldn't worry about it.

Update... Its on and sounds good.  I think I feel a tiny bit more power on the Hwy.  I think it may be turning blue.  I hope so.  Did your's blacknblue?  Now I just wish Banks made a headpipe so I can go from one end to the other with stainless.
