Radio Install
« on: May 09, 2008, 06:51:48 AM »
I bought my first jeep 2 weeks ago, 2002 TJ 2.5L, love it so far except for the emergency oil pan replacment I had to do on day one of ownership. But my question is about the radio antina in the TJ's, does it run into the plug for the radio?  The Blue wire that I can't account for maybe? Thanks in advance.

Umm...normal antenna plug in as far as I know.  There should be a few extra wires.  I may be crazy, but isn't the blue wire for a power antenna if you have one??

The big antenna plug you plug on the back.  I dont know the brand of your stereo (sometimes the color coding changes), but there are two wires that power other accessories on some aftermarket radio.  In the case of Sony, on our products the blue wire is the antenna remote (is what signals the electrical antennas to rise and lower the antena), and the blue/white wire is the Amp remote (tells the amp to turn on).  If you do not have an electric antenna or an amp, just leave those two cables disconnected (and tape the ends to avoid shorts!).

The Stock deck did not have the big plug in. I thought it to be strange but like i said its my first jeep. The after market has the plug in for the regular big wire.

Sometimes they have a cable and the plug on the end of the cable (meaning that the connector is not in the deck itself); I would have to see pictures to better guide you, but the antenna is a standard plug for all manufacturers.

Yeah...look for a fairly large black braided cable coming out of the deck...probably (when looking at the back of the radio) on the left side??  I have my old radio sitting in the garage.  I'll try and take a pic when I get home if you still want it.

Thanks guys. I did have a look for the cable but I will take a second look now that you say it might not have been hooked to the original radio.  A pic would help yes thanks.
