Willing to go full width? What size tires are you going with? What's your budget?

i can go full width or have them cut down like my s-10...going to step up to 35's maybe 37's later after a bigger better lift...money not that big of a problem.......might just buy one axle at a time....figured i would need to run 5.38's or better for the tires

For 6-Lug, just go with an '84-'91 SJ D44/D44 or D44/M20.  No narrowing required since they're something like 62" up front and 59" in the back.  This would by far be the cheapest option.

Going 3/4 or 1Ton on 35's is a bit much.  You'll lose ground clearance unless you shave the housings.  For something larger I'd go with a D60/14B combo though.  You'll probably pay a premium for a 78-79 D60 but the 14B's are cheap.  You can easily shave off 1.5-2" off the bottom of the 14B without causing other issues.

Unless you're Moz.....

For 35's or even a little bigger why not do an 8.8/D30? Should even be OK for 37's with chromoly shafts.

Unless you start shaving the D60, it's a bit of a anchor in the rocks.  If you don't have rocks then it's just a shovel.

8.8/D30 won't give you the low enough gears.  Not to mention he wants the stronger 6 on 5.5 or 8's.  Then there's the manual hubs...
