Topic: 2.5 Cam grind

Hello all,

I would call myself a returning "Newbie".  I have putzed around here when I first bought my 95 YJ Rio Grande last summer.  Since then I have done some upgrading but nothing too extreme.

My question is this:  I would like to do a new cam and lifters.  I found a place called Delta Cams that will sell me a new cam and lifters for basically $100 bucks.  You can reuse the stock springs ect. according to the guy at Delta.  The specs are:  192' x .412 lift int    200' x .412 lift exh.  duration @ .050

They call this their "torque" grind.  Is this going to produce a noticable top end difference on my truck?  I hate the fact that my Jeep can't get out of its own way.  I am not looking for a miracle here just SOME improvement.  I have done the basic stuff (intake, exhaust ect.) and this is the next logical step (plus I need a valve job so why not do the cam now too). 

Anyone running the HESCO RVOB cam? Know the specs on that?

I just installed the Hesco RV0B4 cam while I was doing a complete rebuild. I can't comment on the top end performance, cause I'm still trying to take it easy till I get a few miles on it. The specs are on Hesco's site.

I do notice a good increase in torque between 2k and 3.5k, but that may be in part due to the rebuild. I kept the stock valve springs for now and Bennie at Hesco said that I should be ok unless I'm doing a lot of higher rpms. I'm still working out a slight misfire, but once I get that straight I'll be putting it through the paces.

I am just hoping that the specs on this cam are sufficient.  I am thinking they will be.  I guess only time will tell.....

To follow up on my previous post...

I now have about 800 miles on the new motor and I've worked out the electrical issue that was causing the misfire. The cam does make a noticeable gain. I'm feeling more torque on the low end especially, although I did install a high power ignition coil recently as well. I'd say the peak is around 3000 rpm, but it pulls pretty good from 1200 to 5500 rpm. I also hear a much more aggressive intake tone as well. I have an open cone filter, and before, you could hear it sucking. Now it growls about as loud as the exhaust.

I have used delta cams twice in both of my jeeps. They made a difference, before it wouldnt hardly move, after the cams it had more torquw and power. PLus i've put yella terra roller rockers on both engines, a tb spacer and 4.0 tb, big improvements. I'm going to modify the original air intake and replace the tube with a smooth one piece mandrel bent pipe, and keep the stock air box. It flows air nicely, just the intake tube is restrictive and causes lots turbulation. besides delta is local for me right in tacoma, wa, and they give a core charge back when you send in your old cam.
