Anybody know of any?
« on: July 27, 2008, 08:47:23 AM »
I tried searching and maybe I'm just not searching hard enough.  I'm tring to find a write up of a 4.0 throttle body install.  I tried to look at Jeffy's but it must be a broken link.  I know its not really a hard mod to do to your Jeep but just wanted to read a little about it before I get into it.  Hopefully I don't get flamed for this heh.  ::)

Don't have a link for you but your right it is fairly easy.  Disconnect battery.  Take air intake off.  Take a good look at how it looks.  Disconect the electrical and cable connections.  Unscrew 4 bolts.  Take parts off the old and install on the new TB.  Put TB back on with bolts (might want to get a new gasket).  Reconect cable/electical componets, air intake and battery.  Start Jeep and let it idle for 5 minutes.  Your good to go, this was from memory so there might be a step or two I didn't elaborate on.

I did not disconect the battery (very few electrical parts apart from the IAS and TPS, and these two are plugs), but JCSanders is right.  It is a 10 minute job!

Here are sone links as well...

I had another good link, but I lost it (along with the rest of the HDD!).

I just installed a throttle body off an 02 TJ on my 95 YJ 2.5. I went to start it and it reved up to 5 grand right away and dosen't drop. I heard when you first do this mod that you will have high idle when you first start it up and then it would slowly drop as the computer adjust but I didn't figure 5 grand. What should I do?

Make sure you swap out the AIS & TPS from the 2.5 TB to the 4.0 TB, if you don't you want get proper idle or performance!!

I swapped out the two sensors off mine onto the 4.0 TB.  Is there a certain way the TPS has to go onto the throttle body?

Broken link?

Anything that's an official write-up is in the FAQ.

Not only do you need to swap the sensors BUT you alos need to swap the AIS housing.  If you don't you'll more then likely have a high idle because of the vacuum leak it will cause.

Ok I swaped housings, sensors and it still has high idle, a little lower but still above 4 grand.  When pulled the AIS sensor out of the 4.0 AIS housing it was all apart kinda.  I had to screw the end that goes in the housing back on.  Is it possible its broken now?

The reason to disconnect the battery is to clear the computer (might not be necessary but the instructions I had said to do it).

I let it sit for a little over 5 minutes with the battery disconnected and still nothing.  I called it quits and put the 2.5 TB back on.  I'm not gonna let it sit there at 4,500 RPMs and see if it will drop.  Its not worth blowin up the motor.  I may mess with it later but I need it driveable.  The only thing I can think of still messin with it is this:

This being the MAP sensor for the 02 TJ I believe.  If I've read right my MAP sensor is mounted up there over the engine on the firewall. So its not like I have anything to plug in this.  Thanks for all the help though guys :thumb:

If you don't have a map sensor mounted on your original tb, you need to find a tb from a 95 and older that doesn't have one either, that is probably the source of you ginormous vacuum leak which is causing you fast idle. If you ever come down to the south side of Indy I have an older style like you need that I would sell you for $35 installed.

The only time I'm ever close to that area is when I'm in attica for the badlands.  Thanks for the offer though man, I'll probbley find one somewhere if I still decide to swap them out.

Actually, here's what you do.  Remove the MAP sensor and cap off the end of the fitting.  You should be able to find a rubber cap of some sort at the hardware store.

Jeffy is right, your high idle was a vacuum leak at the MAP sensor port.  Just put a vacuum cap on it and you'll be fine.

My '95.5 YJ came with a newer style throttle body on it, with the MAP port capped from the factory.  Not a big deal to use a '96-'04 TB on a '91-'95 jeep.

There is a screw on the bottom of the TB that restricts the closing of the tab; make sure it is as closed as possible without getting to the point where it gets stuck...  This happened to me as well, and it was easily fixed by unscrewing one screw.
