72 ford f100???
« on: August 30, 2008, 11:31:15 PM »
ok guys here is something new i have been wondering and i have looked and cant find a write up about this in this site and since everybody is so smart on this site i will not be posting this question anywhere else so here it goes. first  off i just was handed down a 72 ford f100 by a buddy that cant afford the gas plus it is a little rusted out just the body, so with that said it has a 460ci engine not thinkin of using that, buuuut i was wondering if i took out the whole drive train minus motor and swapped it in my yj it would be pretty solid. now it has a np435,np205,high pinion dana 44 and a built ford 9in full width of coarse but with the right offset wheels it should be alright i mean if you look at my pics of my jeep now the wheels stick out about 4inches besides i dont care about that anyway my main concerne is has anybody heard of anyone mating the np435 to the 2.5l i think that would be just great offroad the first two gears are lower than my first gear that is in my jeep now and i believe the np205 is an all gear driven transfer case so if anyone has any knowledge on this i would really appreciate it and thanks again  :bandit:

The 205 is a huge heavy tcase and hangs way down.  Overkill for a 2.5L YJ, and as far as I know there is not a good way to clock it up out of the way.  The axles are going to be way too wide, and trying to correct that with wheel offset is going to make it steer really poorly.

The clowns'? Oh, yeah, the clowns. We fight them too — entire armies, spilling out of Volkswagons. We do our best to fight them off, but they keep sending 'em in!
