Topic: 2.5 inch rough country lift

im interested in gettin a lift kit soon. i found a 2.5 inch kit from rough country

i have a few questions to ask you guys before i make my decision. firstly, is anyone familiar with this kit or company? is the on road ride crappy/stiff...shotty at highway speeds?  with a 2.5 inch lift, will the transfer case need to be lowered? will i need a steering stabilizer or is what they are offering in the package pretty much all i need?

A good friend of mine is a RC dealer, when we had this discussion this is what he had to say about RC......

the guy that i deal with at rough country actually signed up on NAXJA (XJ forum) and started a rough country thread.

and yeah rough country was getting bashed so badly. but he straightened out alot of problems. alot of problems weren't their fault. like people buying kits from JC Whitney which aren't "true" rough country kits and come with other components. alot of people also never bothered to call rough country to see about getting their problems fixed.


and the most stupid comment "there is a reason their called rough country. cuz their ride is Jell-o". mmhh..........i've sold 2 kits now through my wifes jeep, and several other people who have been in her jeep said it rode awesome.


so far in my experience, their product is of good quality, and their customer service is awesome. i mean there are people who hate rubicon express, sky jacker, teraflex, etc..etc..etc..etc..

and you know the best part??? it's damn near impossible to beat their prices. i've tried, and their price is always the best.

I also have ridden in that TJ and it rides very nice. I don't know that I'd buy a kit off Ebay though.

From the auction, looks like it is being sold by RC.  I like RC, haven't owned a RC kit but I've seen many of them on the trail and they work very well.  Looks like they've got a great guarantee. 

That kit should be all you need, but I'd take a look at how centered the front axle is, side to side, once the kit is installed.  If needed, you can redrill the lower hole for the front track bar a little to the driver's side to recenter the axle.

nice. ill have the $$ soon. think i might have to replace my rims-they arent exactly the correct size as they allow the tires to rub on the frame when you turn all the way over. figure the backspacing is wrong-gonna look into maybe some cragers if they are the correct size and then ill grab the lift.

as for dropping the t-case with this lift, ive researched a bunch of forums and so far from what i can tell some ppl (like th owner of the sahara featured in the pics) leave it as is and others drop it. kind of like a wait and see approach. anyone know what should actually be done officially with this lift? ie droppin the t-case, stabilizers etc?

At the most lenghten the stabilizer bar rods for the front as well as the rear swaybar. Its best to leave the rear swaybar connected even when 4wheeling gives it more stability.

i think that as far as lowering the tc it just depends on your jeep i have a 2.5in. susp. lift and i didnt touch the skid and i have zero vibes, however others have said that they do so i would install the lift and just see if you have some if you do its not a big deal just run to the hardware store and pick up a few washers and put them on the bolts holding up the skid...

if i was you id also put in some .75 in. front coil spring isolators to level your front end that is if your lift still leaves you with some rake...but if you like the rake then its up to you lol i just put them on mine and its real nice and level.

also i used ratchet straps to compress the springs while installing them it worked a lot better than trying to figure out the spring compressor autozone lent me for 50 bucks

PS have you caught the jeep bug yet lol you know once you put this lift on the mods will never end

hehe...mods...yea that bug hit me even before i thought of the lift...got a whole damn list of projects id like to do...but now ive narrowed it to a few final projects...this lift, cat back exhaust, and the correct size rims (dude who sold it to me had the wrong size for my 31s and the tires bite at hard over). id like to think that id be satisfied with all that but then i saw this grill guard on ebay for about 80 bucks..could throw a few aux lights on it....but then i SWEAR im done with the mods.........

thanks for the advice with the lift...im pretty sold on it..im gonna wait till i save a bit more $$ and ill buy it. id love to post pics but the last time i tried it wouldnt let me..gotta work on that too.
