center console
« on: November 27, 2008, 03:12:23 PM »
hey guys, i bought a 00, or so I think wrangler 4 banger.  It is the se edition with the cheap 1 cup holder and no arm rest.  I still have my 91 but I think im gonna sell her.  Anyway I have 3 questions.  First the airbag switch by the shifter, didnt it start in 2001?  Also second, this console on ebay, link here
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Car-Truck-Parts-Accessories__1997-2006-Jeep-Wrangler-Center-Console-Slate-OEM_W0QQitemZ250328359917QQadiZ2865QQadnZCarQ20Q26Q20TruckQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item250328359917&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A543|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318

My question regarding this is has anyone installed it?  Does it just bolt/screw on to my existing console and look pretty factory, or does it look like some cheap aftermarket item?

My other question would be do you think I should go this route instead,

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=360102299268

The seller says that there is cupholders for the rear passangers, but on the other auctions I look at there is no cupholders on the back of the mopar center consoles.  Is this guy lying or doesnt know what hes talking about?  I emailed him to ask for more pictures but have notten no response.  Does anyone have this console and can tell me if there is or isnt cup holders for the rear passangers?

Thanks for your input or help,
Jeff

The airbag started in 2000...that's what I have as well.

Don't go with either of those....spend just a little more and get the Tuffy security console.  Has two cup holders up front and adds two to the rear.  Here is a pic of mine after I put it in a couple of years ago.

This pic shows where the subwoofer can go.

You can safely leave your top down and lock stuff in the center console...I wouldn't do that with a plastic Mopar unit.

how much are these tuffys, and where can i find them?  do you have any more pictures or a link that has more pictures.  it looks pretty rugged.  is it steel i take it?  does it come keyed?  do they come with the sub mounts like yours, or it that custom?
thanks alot for the reply by the way!

Edit: also are the speakers on my soundbar 6x9's?  did the 00 wrangler come stock with this speaker bar option or is an add on?

You can by Tuffy gear from any large 4wd shop....www.4wd.com is where I got mine.

Many options for the center console.  Check them out on their site....http://www.tuffyproducts.com/s-56-1997-2000.aspx

Stock speakers are 5.25" in the rear and 4x6 up front.

There are speaker brackets availble online as well to convert to 5.25 up front...works great for me.

Check out my rig build here.

Holy crap, $475 for that console!  I think I'll take my chances with locking my stuff in one of the 2 plastic ones, nobody really steals stuff around here. But I really want to see some pictures of other peoples setups of the 2 different stock ones.  I really like the idea of the console with the mount for the sub, but I already have a alpine cd player and don't know if it would just wire up like a regular sub?  If so I can do it no problem.  But I don't want it to look like a cheap add on to my stock cheap console.

Edit, also has anyone been able to fit 6x9's in the speaker bar in the back?  I havent taken it apart yet and I will if nobody has tried it, just to see if it would work.

Don't do 6x9's...ovals suck...you'll get better sound from a 6.5"...and it should fit.

I bought the factory setup from scotty;s junkyard here in so cali, 100 bucks came with the subwoofer, took me a bit but wired the subwoofer into the radio and rekeyed the lock been a happy camper ever since.
The center console thing should have a screw under the rubber thingy inside the cup jolder take the screw out and the douvle cupholder should come right out the factory back part bolts right in it has the holes in the floorboard. If all else fails I have a black front piece for the center console you find the back part and you have the hole setup
