Does this sound like a good deal?

A friend of mine has 4.0L non high output I believe. It has 200K something odd miles and will need gone threw.  He also has a 258 crank and what not to make a stroker. Anyway I have a Dana 44 front out of a scout that he wants to trade the motor for. I don't plan on using the axle and wouldn't mind having a 4 liter in the Jeep. Does it sound like a good deal to trade for? I would have to get a harness and a computer for it though heh.

The motors a start, but you are going to have to dump some money into it to rebuild and and stroke it.  Your also going to have to find an AX-15 tranny and a new transfer case or a new input shaft for it.  You will also need motor mounts, wiring harness and a computer, if not the alt, power steering pump too, so it just depends on what hes including with it.  Personally I think im going the 4BT route  :weee: cause I think diesels are cool  :dance:

my opinion the motor is not worth the axle/  44 are easy to sell but i see used 4.0 s all the time for cheap/  plus rebuilding the motor and adapting it will caost quit a bit

Do you mean a RENIX era block?

wanna make a REAL stroker? You'll be getting the right block for it...

The RENIX blocks have been bored safely to 4" (that's .125 over bore). Offset grind the crank by .10 and you'll get a 302 (5.0) stroker!

I'd then get the head from a 91-95 4.0, have larger valves installed, along with a better cam and lifters, 1999+ intake manifold, 62mm TB,  a nice exhaust header, hotter coil and larger plug gap...

Yeah, if you do this, make sure you also get some extra cash from the trade! Haha...

A stroker with (mostly) OEM equipment is my vote... cheaper and you can run unleaded gas if done right!

I would second this, sell the 44 and buy a 4.0l and stroker parts and be oney ahead.

Go stroker, diesels are heavy even the little 4bt Cummins still weighs sin more than most v-8's.

Thanks guys, I got that front 44 for 100 bucks and I had to take it because I wanted the rear 44 that came with it. I don't really have a use for it so its been sitting in my garage for the past couple of months.  I've got random 4 liter parts from friends that have given me stuff so I figure I'll throw that stuff on the motor.  I don't plan on putting the engine in the Jeep anytime soon due to lack of cash so it will be a slow build, plus I want to get that rear 44 in the Jeep too
