With 4.56's I would think it would be kinda doggy. I would imagine it's the extra HP and TQ with the 2.4 VS the 2.5.

Compared with a ax15 it shifts stiff and a bit scratchy but I like the gear spread works well. So Cali has a lot of mountains and hills with the current gear setup it works quite well for me. Also the overdrive is not as big a step as the NV3500, the ax15 and the ax5

16mpg+?Huh?Huh?!!!!!!!! wtf!!!??? man i really envy you guys. ive been trying to squeeze as much gas out of my TJ since i got it. it was at 8mpg or so before the engine blew when i first got it. even with the AEM cold air intake, 62mm TB, TBspacer, upgraded cat back exhaust im still averaging only 11-12mpg (if im lucky) highway. and all im running are 31s...i know my auto tranny doesnt get as good mpgs as the manual but nothing ive done thus far has really helped..but 16mpg+, i hear a lot of the dudes on the forum getting that with larger tires than mine and im blown away...id kill for 14mpg! i wish i could make the jump to 16+, gotta be something im overlooking...

Not to brag- But the past few day's I've been topless and my mileage has still been 16+ easy. 

If you haven't added injectors, they help mileage a little. Do you keep the squirrels tuned up regularly?

i dont get that good of mileage with mine either 98 5spd stock gears with 31's  i only get round 10-12 mpg  and dirving 100 miles a day its kills me but i kno from my old jeep there isnt much helping them out so im looking for a dd.

wow I cant believe how low the mileage is for some of you guys, my 95 YJ has never got below 14mpg and that was when i was playing with 36lb injectors and heavy rich fuel maps for the turbo. I did read and interesting online article about how a few YJ's had bad mileage and the fuel pressure was too high, the return line inside the tank ending up getting bent by rubbing against the plastic of the sending unit. It was fixed by trimming the line by 3/4". There mileage then returned not saying that's the cause but worth looking into.

On another note has anyone used or looked into the Toyo MT's, I run them on my truck and I am very happy with them on and off road. They are also some of the best balanced tires on the market, right from brand new they require almost nothing for weight to balance the most they put on my 37x13.5R17's was .75 of an ounce. I will be buying a set of Toyo 33x12.5R15's for my YJ next week now that I have some wheels for them.

yea im pretty sure i dont have overdrive-wish i did. i didnt calibrate-since i bought the jeep with the 31s already on em. but from my crude estimates, it doesnt really show false calculations. ex: ill read 60 miles from here (CT) to Maritime (bronx) on the odometer-map quest reads estimates 60 miles as well.  ive compared it here and there but no i havent actually recalibrated it officially.  i used to think the injectors were prob causing my poor mpg- i had them out and tested em to see what kind of spray pattern they were getting-it was pretty much like they were straight stream pissing-i was expecting a mist i suppose-some ppl told me the jeep injectors dont really mist since they only have one nozzle-others told me they should mist-i really dont know lol

Well it could be worth it to find a place that cleans calibrates and tests injectors, or simply put 4 new ones in and see where it takes you. If you know somebody that has a scanner/ not a code reader you could see where fuel trim is at, it will tell you if the ecm is adding or subtracting fuel. Also driving style plays a big factor in milage a heavy foor and fairly high Highway speeds make the beasty slobber gas. you run close to 80 mph it really loves the stuff in the tank

No kidding. When I'm running 80 on the highway, I don't get the greatest mileage. But I wouldn't run that fast if I cared 

It seems like it doesn't matter much how I drive around town, the lowest I usually get is 15. On the highway though, if I stay at about 65 max I have no problem getting 18+. It actually went up a bit when I bumped up to 35's, being just barely undergeared now (Not that I notice it) seems to help mileage in some cases

I'm ran some 31-9.5-15 and was getting around 15mpg, then i went to stockers and was getting around 16-17mpg, and then i aquired a set of 33-12.5-15 and i get around 14-15mpg. I'm running 3.73 on DD. As far as running with the top down, Its about equal for me A/C vs Top down I figure the air drag vs hp lost to A/C is about the same. I run around 70-75 driving to the coast ~35 miles with a 20 mph head wind everyday. My 33's I only drive around 65 or so because they were free and dry rotten. So I don't really wanna roll the heep.  Oh yea Its a 2.4l with 6-spd. I have found that my CB is the best MPG mod I have done ever.  I just draft and talk to truckers they usually don't care too much. I got the idea when i helped move my sister one year from Midland, Tx to Temple, Tx about 400 miles. I had to drive there first from Houston which is like 600 miles I think. Me and a buddy drove up and she rented a budget truck, I had my friend drive the jeep behind the truck as close as he could. getting 30 MPG. No S@#@.
