Slow starting YJ
« on: April 18, 2009, 10:06:19 AM »
I have a '95 YJ.  I have recently installed the performance distributors firepower ignition kit, I have a Rock-It intake, my battery is only a couple monts old.  My Jeep still is slow to start. Not as slow as if the battery is not charged (my stock alternator still seems to be charging well), but slower than I expected after reading posts about the ignition upgrade. I also plan on installing a 62mm throttle body, 62mm tb spacer, and 19lb Ford injectors any ideas if these will effect starting. The only non-stock electric draw I have is a clarion head unit, no amp or anything else. Thanks for any ideas.

Is the cranking slow, or it cranks fast for a while before firing?

check the fuel pressure if it is cranking over fast . if it is cranking slow check amp draw on the starter while cranking

Sorry if this sounds stupid but I am learning as I go so. How do I check my fuel pressure? I would believe almost anything could be wrong as this Jeep only has 65,000 miles but has been sitting for about 6 years. I have changed fuel filter; do you think the line or injectors are gunked up.

Thanks for the replies

Try this.  Turn the key to run and wait 3-5 seconds before cranking.  See if it fires sooner.

My YJ does the same thing, seems pretty common.

Thanks for the advice, I tied it with mixed results. It seems to help once my Jeep is warm, but not when it is cold.

NEED TO GET A FUEL PRESSURE GAUGE FOR FUEL INJECTION THERE IS A VALVE ON THE THE FUEL RAIL SCREW IT ON THERE AND GO TO THE RUN POSTION  AND SEE WHAT THE READING IS SHOULD BE 39psi - 41psi the fuel lines should be fine
