What will happen with Jeep?
« on: April 27, 2009, 05:05:41 PM »
OK I got to ask everybody what they think will happen to the Jeep brand.
Are we going to have an Italian Jeep?
I don't think GM is in the position to buy it, Ford, although has a history
making Jeeps during the war, most likely have thier own problems and headaches.
Can Jeep be a stand alone brand?
What do you think?

If Fiat doesnt work out somebody will buy it.  Either an investment group or a company like Tata.  I dont think it would be able to fly solo.  Although maybe International can be convinced to buy Jeep and get back in the market.  Let the internet rumor begin on that one.

I agree Jeep can't stand on it's own, but I hope FIAT doesn't
buy it and dump all it's left over inventory into the Jeep.
IH would work, just about any company with a good truck line
will understand what the Jeep is and who to build them for.
I think with any car only company, or investment group,
you will end up with more Patriots and Commanders and will
put the death nail into this brand.

Being from Green Bay, I want to say once and for all;  The Packers are not owned by the fans.  They are owned by a group of old timey stock holders.  They sold worthless non-voting stock to fans.  They are owned by "fans" but those "fans" are lucky enough to have inherited their ownership.
It would be cool for Jeep to get bought by an investment group who gets Jeep though.

I'd like to see Jeep get bought by an AM General/Honda partnership that expands and modernizes the "Jeep" brand to include quads, "ruggedized" hybrid/battery technology and future Wrangler models using tech based on the H1 drive-train and including diesel models (Honda could engineer the diesels).    But of course that would probably leave a lot of the buyers of Jeep's current spread of models under-served down the road.  So, Jeep will probably do as well or better with Chrysler/Fiat.
