Labelled Rocker Switches
« on: May 31, 2009, 07:37:05 PM »
Anyone know where I can get some labeled rocker switches?  I used to get them from 4X4mod.com, but it seems they are out of business (website is still up, but PayPal does not allow for payments).  I will need to get switches for:

  • Fog Lights
  • Driving Lights
  • Fans (3 position)
  • OBA
  • Front Locker
  • Rear Locker
  • Winch

I would prefer to get lighted switches if at all possible, but I do want them labeled, as it will make it neater and easier for others (like my dad) to operate.  I am currently using the ARB switches (there are blue) for the lockers and OBA, and the 4X4mod.com for the fans and lights, but my fan switch broke today, and I need to replace it...  Plus, I prefer to have all switches match, so that they are all the same color and style (it just looks better that way).  Any help will be most welcome!

I've seen lots of these Rocker Switches on Ebay... What is difference with these Rocker Labeled Switches compared to your existing switches?

What I like about these is that they are labeld, so te fan switch has a little picture of a fan and says fan, and the driving lights have a little picture ofdriving lights and says lights, and so forth...  The ones I found on eBay you pretty much have to know by memory which switch is for what, and if you lend your Jeep to someone else, you better teach them what each switch is for, so that they will not lock up the jeep thinking they are turning the fan on...

I know Daystar makes them, but they arent cheap.

I looked at those, but they are not labeled...

Have you checked Painless? I'm sure they're not the cheapest but they should be well made.

I checked, but found no labeled switches from them; just switch panels with standard switches...

Felipe try  www.otrattw.com     Label's aren't stickers and higher end switch's.

I'll try them as soon as I get home (for some reason, that site is blocked from my office).  Thanks!

A local marine supply store, or a good electrical supply store should have the switches. You have the caps for the ARB switches they should snal right in. you can get a cover from arb or any good 4x4 store that installs arb lockers.
So all that would be left is some for your lights. The switches themselves should run about 12 bucks

Its a good thing that you finally found the switches you've been looking for...
Keep s updated by the time you have installed all of these switches...

Well, first of all, let me say that te customer service from this guy (Jim) is one of the bestI have received; I guess it's to do with the size of the operation (because I have had also top-notch customer service from Brown Dog Industries and Delta Current Controls, which are also very small operations).  The guy called me to mak sure I was getting what I wanted, and told me I did not need to order the switch body for the ARB switches, but rather only the rocker itself because the body is the same (which is nice, because now I have even more confidence about the quality of the switch).

He also told me that the computer had overestimated the shipping, so even though I changed the order to get all the switches with the bottom light bar (the one that lights up when you turn on your dash lights), I got refunded some money (very honest of him).  He also wrote to me in detail how to connect the switches so that I will not scew up everything with my inferior understanding of electrical issues!!! LOL!!!

As far as progress, I alrady changed the rocker switches of the 3 ARB switches (they look NICE!), and I will most likely install today the 3 remaining switches (fan and 2 sets of lights).

OK, so I replaced all the switches finally.  This is how it looks like now both in daylight and at night (the bottom light tab comes on when you turn on the parking lights with the exception of the fan, which comes on when in the bottom - AUTO - position; the top light comes on when the switch is activated and in the case of the fans, it comes on on the top - OVERRIDE ON - position).

Daylight...

Nighttime...

Looks very nice, however I would swap the location of the switches, your locker switches you want to get to very easily since you end up using them a lot while 4 wheeling. The locker get switched on and off a lot on tuff trails so you want to be able to get to the switches easily without taking your eyes of the trail etc. Other than that great job

Thanks for the advice; I placed them there because I find them easier to find on that side without looking (keep in mind I am 6'5", so they are still well within reach) because the switch pannel is easy to locate (it protudes from the bottom of the instrument panel, where as the right side, I do need to look at the switches to find them).  Besides, I am a lazy SOB, so I dont want to re-wire the whole thing with longer wires...   :beers:

Great job...I remember that site from the TJ panel he shows in that picture.  Would love to replace that area of my dash since I don't need my rear defroster and wiper switches anymore.
