Topic: 19 gallon gas tank.

Will a 19 gal tank from a 2001 TJ fit into a 97 TJ with out any major mods? This tank comes with straps as well.

Should be the same tank, the only difference is yours has an extended fill tube or vent tube on the inside of the tank that limits it to 15gal.  This tube can be trimmed by reaching inside the tank through the hole for the sending unit.

You can convert yours to a 19 gallon tank.
But the 4.0 tank should be a direct swap. They did not change the way the sending unit goes into the tank until 04... I think.

Did mine in about 20 min. cut the vent tube off after pulling it out of the tank now holds 20 gallons stays on full for 120 miles or so

I did, took me longer than 20 minutes though   Drop the tank, pull the sending unit and cut the small tube.

Don't know how accurate this info is but could be nice if its true?
Here's how to "enlarge" your TJ gas tank, written by an anonymous contributor:

Take down the tank and gain access to the top. Unscrew the sending unit/pump/filter and pull it out. It holds about a litter of fuel inside to keep the pump cool, so lift it straight out and tilt it back into the tank.

The column is more like a telescoping unit. It can slide up or down. Tabs on the side allow it to click in two positions. 15g and 20g. Sliding it down lowers the intake of the whole assembly, where before it sat about 4.5 inches above the tank bottom. The float acutally drops because of this making the whole system fairly accurate now.

I don't know about yours, but my fuel gauge lied all the time. Empty ment I had 4 gallons left and it would always drop hard on the last quarter. Now it's consistant all the way through.

X 2....or anyother reason I end up dropping it. Not a pressing need as of yet but when eventually it does come down I will be searching the threads

I know this is not what you want  but I'd just wanted to throw it out there.

  WOW! I dunno if 5-6 gal would be worth 1k! I guess if you ran out of gas in the wilderness 5 gal might seem like a great idea... <shrug>

For 5-6 gal, yes it is.  Really though, it's not much extra range for an expedition vehicle, which is probably why they call it Enduro instead.  You could get a 10-15 gal fuel cell and mount it behind the seat for a couple hundred.  Then have two tanks.  The cheaper option would be to get a gas can.  They have some interesting molded plastic containers that could be easy to mount inside.

I am not a fan of tanks in side the jeep, but you are right it would be cheaper.
As for gas can's, I'm going to have those to, but I will need to have the rack fabricated,
because the are waverunner, ATV  gas can's. They are VP racing jug's. Did I say jugs

Granted he is not running a spare tire on the rear like most people do. But the racing jugs do work, even better if you already have them.
