swapping fuel rail
« on: August 12, 2009, 08:10:34 AM »
I was needing to test my FP at the rail last week and had to take it to the dealer because my rail doesnt have a schrader valve.
Question- is there any other year fuel rail i can swap in that has the valve? 97 tj 2.5

thanks

from what i know the engine is the same with the prev years but i don't know if the intake is similar - if you take a pic of yours i can do the same with mine ('95) and we can compare. Also if you measure the distance between injectors i can let you know if that is similar as well. never got my hands on a 97 so that's the best i can do to help, let me know.

The fuel rail on the YJ and TJ should be different; the TJ has no fuel return line like the YJ does (but I dont know if this is a difference of the FPR or the rail itself).  I do have 2 fuel rails in my garage if you need pictures of them outside the Jeep...  Just let me know if you do.

i've seen somewhere a plug for the return line (can't remember where) and it was basically installing in place of the FPR valve - if everything else is the same you could look at that. I did my own with an old FPR valve - i threaded the inside of the nipple (I think i used a 6mm tap), i put a screw in with teflon paste and then grind down the hex head to the same diameter as the outside of the nipple - took about 1/2 an hour but had no leaks. To make sure you could also add a short piece of fuel hose with a plug at the return and clamps, that way you're 100% that there's nothing coming out - just in case everything else is the same this could work - i can take a pic of it if you like.

I know my 2002 fuel rail has a schrader valve (this was the last year of the 2.5), so I suppose 00-02 would probably be the same
