Topic: Best $200 you've spent on your jeep

with the end of summer came a bonus to "buy something fun" which to me says buy something for the jeep. thing is i can't decide what to buy, ive been thinking about rocker panel protection (i tend to rub the factory rubber fender flare steps quite abit on trees so something stronger would be nice.) ive also been thinking of new sets since the passenger ones mounts rusted out when i got it and the drivers is starting to fall apart (seat frame is cracking / rusting like the passenger did). other than that i have a 1" t-case lowering kit on it that id like to eliminate but i think with my new shackles i may be able to take it off as the longer shackles helped the angles. im basically looking to spend $200-300. so i got to thinking what the best $200-300+/- you guys have / want to spend on your jeep.

In term of true reliability increase, an oil pan skid would top the list.  Some would say a gas tank skid and I used to say that too until my oil pan got hit once (almost punctured) after the stock gas tank skid had been hit many times before.  The gas tank might get hit more but it can take a lot more too.

In terms of quick capability increase, another locker (lunch box in this case) would top the list.

Best 200 I spent was the cage I got for $130 plus the trip to pick it up. However since that kind of deal is pretty rare I would say rocker protection for sure. I really regret not listening to that advice until I learned the hard way.

The best $200 I've spent has to be seats.  Then again mine is a daily driver and not trailered.

Have you consider making your own rocker skids with some 6x4 angle iron or something similar?  Should be a lot less then $200-300 so you'll be able to stretch your money.

best 200 i spent was 150 for a dana30. i kept the locrite and drivers side alloy. spare pads rotors calipers. traded histeer knuckle for help installing sye and 8.8. and tj shaft to eliminate disco

i found a steel place that had 3/16plate and broke it 6" one way and 12" the other for 120. when my  cage is done it will tie into rocker and left over dom will be bent and welded for tree prot

Best $200 would be a toss up between an Aussie locker and rocker protection.

For $300 you should have enough to get a aussie locker up front & have enough for some steel to fabricate some rocker guards, not counting the gear oil.

X2; These worked great for me!  I also got a MOPAR performance cam for under $200, but those are hard to come by now-a-days...  I think Hesco still makes cams for the 2.5L, though, but without the extra airflow and fuel, I dont think you'll see great improvements.

that would be nice if my jeep was 1 year newer  .. and i already installed an electric fan...

i have thought of fabing up some rocker panel guards (what thickness do you guys suggest?).. thing is i wont have time to do that tell xmass time (but probably wouldn't install tell then anyways)... but a locker up front is also on my list... we actually have a new powertracs noslip for a 97gc rear end (think its a d35 would have to check) that we aren't going to use since that jeep never leaves the road  , that we should probably try to sell to put towards a front locker... im thinking seats and making rocker guards at this juncture and installing the rubi flares while im at it (anyone know where to get the side markers for those for a decent price)

For rockers 3/16 would be good. I did make some out of 5x3x1/4 angle iron. They did the job.
For seats you can check the boneyard for some. I forget which model car it is but some people have put in some bucket seats from either Toyota or Nissan. Might need to fab some mounts thou.

with $200 you can line your interior with the nice stuff for a decent price-herculiner at autozone or such. looks great when it's done. won't increase your horsepower though lol.  youd have cash left over for diamond plating sides/fenders if you're into that kind of look.  $200 also gets ya a decent cold air intake if you were considering that mod.
