« on: September 15, 2009, 06:22:49 AM »
I want to upgrade my steering since my last wheeling outing its pretty sloppy. I am thinking jcroffroads kit bc it uses full size chevy tre's. easy to find tre's if breakage.

The tie rod flip is a good way to go with SUA.  But it will kind of lock you into SUA unless you spend more to undo the flip.  The slop could be in other places too.  My '95 had slop in the u-joints on the shaft from the stering wheel to the box and also in two TREs on the drag link.  It got better but it still has slop in the box itself.

I do understand that slop can be other places. but when you jack up one wheel and shake tire side to side lot of movement at least an inch forward and backward

If your serious about switching your steering to the top of the knuckle. I have the steering links you need. They are set up for the GM TRE. 7/8x18TPI. When I was running my D30 I used these.
They are 1.25 DOM with some 1 inch .095 sleeved inside with some Poly Performance 7/8 x 18 TPI bungs welded on each end. One left and right per link.
You would need to get the TRE's and a reamer to ream the knuckles, one of the TRE's and your pitman arm.

I have about $100 into the set with the steel and bungs. I'll take $50 plus the ride.

Rotation is normal on the stock setup IIRC. But yes you'd have movement up/down as well it were the hubs.
