Durango box install

If anybody is considering this, I HIGHLY recommend it!
I found one at a local yard already pulled for $50 thanks to car-part.com for doing the leg work! :biggrin:
I thought I would share a few things that might help people out.
The pitman arm has 4 symmetrical alignment notches...YOU CAN "clock" it wrong on the steering box! I did.
Make sure the steering box is centered before installation of the arm, and of course the steering wheel should be locked in the center position before pulling the pitman arm/drag link.
Just thought I would share...
Got it clocked right now, and i've got a nice, tight 1.5 turns lock to lock!

what about the bolt pattern? someone mentioned something about that i believe in another thread.

Bolt pattern is identical, but the top rear bolt is deleted on the Durango box.
Hose fittings are the same as well.
The box is wider, so the drag link will need to be shortened via the rod ends.

Should be a tad under 3 turns lock to lock, like 2 5/8 or something similar.

Durango box is a good easy upgrade.  I would also recommend drilling out the orifice in the PS pump to flow a little more fluid.  Using an external tranny cooler on your PS is a great upgrade to add capacity and keep the fluid cool, really important when running a locker up front.

How is it on the highway? This sounds cool but I'm afraid my junk would be way too sensitive on the freeway with only 1.5 turns lock to lock.

so is it 1.5 lock to lock or 3 lock to lock (1.5 each way from center)

and how many turns for stock (sorry for the dumb question but my motor insn't turning at this time and i don't want to grow muscles trying to do it w/o p/s :)

1.5 would be crazy fast, most are about 2.7 to 3.2 turns lock to lock.  I think the OP was thinking about what it takes to center the steering wheel.

are there any other benefits of this mod except 1 less turn lock to lock. are they built any better, last longer, run cooler? sorry if this is a dumb question. also ive never adjusted the drag link, is it hard? figure it shouldn't be bad if any tips id appreciate it. mines out and am gonna swap out this weekend. thanks

It seems to be a little beefier than the stock boxes Jeeps came with. It had a bigger bore.
To adjust your drag link just loosen the TRE assembly on one side and twist the TRE to shorten to your desired length, then re-tighten.

For me, it was also newer/lower mileage.
I just wheeled with it last weekend, and it is pretty nice to have quick steering on the tight stuff.
